Hi all.

I tried writing a simple webpage in TextEdit, TextWrangler, and XCode. The TextWrangler and XCode files display perfectly, but for some reason the TextEdit file doesn't display at all. Instead of actually showing the page, it shows all the tags and looks exactly the same as it did in TextEdit. Get info says it is an HTML file, and it has the right extension, so I'm not sure what's wrong. I tried opening it in TextWrangler, which revealed a lot of hidden code that must have been added in by TextEdit?

Now I can always just use TextWrangler or XCode, so it's not really a problem, but I'm just mystified and curious as to why this happens. Why is TextEdit adding all these strange tags, and why won't won't its html files show up in browsers? I'm using Firefox. I tried it in Safari, too, and the same thing happens.

Thanks!

(Hmm... it feels kind of wrong posting an HTML question in a "programming" subforum... but won't really fit anywhere else...)
