Hello All,

Tonight I picked up a Mac Mini Server. My goal is simple. I want the Ultimate HTPC and Multipurpose Server. I will have it hooked into my new 50 inch LCD Sony Brava. So I want to be able to store my videos and photos and music (just starting my collection now) and I'm a developer, so I'll also have my source files and development tools on it for remote developing and demoing. I'll also have a few games on it for playing on my big screen (World Of Warcraft on my big screen... Can't Wait).

My question is...
Should I Raid 0 it? I know it will combine the 2 500gb drives together to form a 1TB fast drive. I guess my real question is, will I have a problem using Time Machine and Super Duper to back up the raid 0 drive? (I couldn't really find an answer to this. I just didn't know since it will be techically 2 drives)

Thanks,
Cedric

Time machine and Super Duper won't care if it's raided. To them it'll just be a 1TB drive. Should you do RAID 0? Might as well. I doubt you'll see much benefit from it since most of your large content will be fairly static (videos). But it can't hurt. Your only other options are to have 2 drives or concatenate them.

my opinion:

You'll see very little real world benefit from raid0 and you'll double the chance of problem related to drive failure. And the single large drive will still not likely be big enough for a true depot of music and video files.

I'd use the second drive for a TM backup of the boot drive and get an external solution for storage.
