HTPC MacMini and iTunes metadata

Hi all,

I hope I'm posting this in the right section of the forums.
I use a baseline 2011 MacMini as my HTPC and it works like a charm. I have ripped my TV Shows from my DVD's onto MacMini (they did not come with a digital copy) and I use Plex to watch them.

For those of you who use Plex, you know that the app fetches metadata for the Video files and then shows them up on the big screen. My question is:
How do I get metadata into the files themselves, so I can port them to iTunes and onto my iPad and iPhone and have the sorting, show names, etc? I know I can edit them manually, but isn't there some program that fetches the metadata and then applies it to the files along with covers, titles, description and makes them iTunes ready?

I used to use MetaX years ago and it worked pretty well. The metadata in Plex is pretty much only useful to Plex.

Identify in the Mac App Store is a great program for metadata in iTunes files.

It is the last step in my RipIt>Handbrake>Identify process to get my dvd's and tv shows into iTunes.

I use MetaX in bootcamp because its much faster processing than in OSX. I usually get my cover art, fan art, synopsis, etc. from Media Center Master in bootcamp as well. I find Media Center Master much more comprehensive than MetaX data sources. The cover art is also much better quality.

I tried Identify but somehow it did not find any metadata... The naming of the file was perfect, but it found I believe only the title and that's it.

I might give MetaX under Bootcamp a try. I tried using MetaZ for Mac but it only works for some shows and for others it didn't...

Unfortunately, the tools for Windows are far better and have a better selection. My work flow, which is based on an iOS / OSX / Windows 7 HTPC mixed environment. OSX and iOS both require the metadata be embedded in the m4v file whereas Windows 7 requires xml files and folder images.

Windows 7 Professional x64 > Blu-ray > DVDfab > folder > DVDfab MKV.remux > MKVtoolnix > Handbrake > Media Center Master > Meta X > OSX > iTunes > iOS

The DVDfab MKV.remux and MKVtoolnix are only necessary for Blu-ray discs that have forced subtitles not burned in.
