Mate 20 X between Mate 20 and Pro...

https://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_mate_20_x-review-1882.php

So, this one just snuck in completely under the radar it seems.... Huge 7.2" FLAT amoled screen, minimal notch, flagship specs...basically the phone I've always longed for.

I had a chance to test it at MediaMarkt but it was locked down to the stand so I couldn't really hold it, and the in-store skin it was running didn't allow me to do much, but there was no hiding that gorgeous MASSIVE display. Even with its relatively low 346 ppi I wasn't bothered at all by any visible pixels.

This format has to be seen in person, it's totally different from the more "normal" big phones out there at the moment. For videos and games its just immersive at a whole other level. And reading too, which is a big one for me as I really prefer amoled black behind white text to e-readers. Much more of a tablet experience, while still being small enough to be handled like a phone - in my opinion of course, I know that this will be too big for most people.

Only thing giving me second thoughts right now is the Mi Mix 3 with its sublime no-notch screen and considerably lower price (€519 to the €899 of the Mate 20 X).

Now come on Sammy, this is what the Note 10 should look like. 7.2" and FLAT screen, then you can really start talking about productivity...

Huawei's best hope is partnering with Google as a Pixel or Android One device. Definitely a go big or go home phone.

They did that already with the Nexus range, the Nexus 6P, and did a great job, but I doubt that sort of partnership will ever happen again, due to the Smear Campaign being run against Huawei by the US.

@Oohara your quest for the dream machine continues! :D I remember we both were enamored with a large Lenovo phone that was primed for AR. I think I still have its page saved to the home screen of my Pad mini. That one turned out to be a disappointment but I hope this one is great. It's a shame about the lower point but I suppose at that size it was necessary to conserve processing power and battery.

You're lucky you could buy this in your country, with service and support, I presume.

Ooh Grumpy that Phab 2 Pro was it? Yeah I remember that :) This one has all screen where the Phab had fat bezels (even though the Phab still has a wider screen...) and overall seems to be just really capable where the Phabbo was more of the quirky kind. I wonder how many they actually sold...

So yeah let's see...my quest continues on haha...also because I'm ultra picky with where I spend my $$ as I live a kind of roaming freelance life where I need to get by on a low income. But the 20 X is definitely the main object of my gadget lust at the moment.

Really sorry to hear that it's not sold in the US :( Now I remember reading about that. Hopefully it's well received here so they bring it over there too, or at least the next iteration of it!

Yep, it's even been sold in a bundle with the pen but I'm not sure where/when/how, I just remember it from some Youtube unpacking video. Would love to have a pen with that huge screen.

I've been using the Mate 20X for a month now, was on a MiMix 2S and P2XL prior to that. The display is great, you don't really feel the size after you get used to it. Pocketability is pretty awesome too, the Mate 20X slides into my jeans pocket easily and you can sit down as well.

In terms of smoothness, I'll give it to the MiMix 2s, it is closest to the iPhone like buttery UI. I suspect the MiMix 3 to be the same as well!

Yes, I think that was the one. I looked and I think I did finally delete the shortcut to its page after all.

Well hang in there a little while and see also what Samsung might be releasing. I know they've gone crazy with pricing but there are always incredible deals on them a few months after release.

I forgot to mention Huawei would probably sell very well in the USA but our government prohibits it from being sold here over perceived security risk of some kind. We can get them but have to import them and go without warranty or any kind of support and service.

The Nexus 6P was a great phone using Qualcomm processor and everybody was happy, back to present had Huawei used Qualcomm processor things would have been different. Samsung is not using their in house processor to sell phones in US, there is a reason for it.
Now the telecommunication equipment blowup is the company selling equipment to Iran nuclear development, which is a no no. Yet they did that in sneaky ways.
And the back door data info supply to the Chinese govt. Another finger pointing their way.
I admired the Huawei way of putting phones in the world market. Yet supplied equipment to Iran (a US sworn enemy) for nuclear development, the world will be at the radicals' mercy.
This is what makes US nervous. Like it or not Uncle Sam has the right to intervene, this is their opinion.
Disclaimer: I do not work for US govt. this is my 2 cents.
