CNN has a lush, annotated series of photos taken at Huawei's R&D centers in China:

https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2019/05/business/huawei-cnnphotos/index.html

Their high-status jobs rival those in Silicon Valley. Yet the only clear, identifiable picture of an employee using her phone (at tea) shows her with her iPhone. :D Wonder how that shot made it past what had to be a review by Huawei before the photographer left.

Huawei CEO’s daughter also uses iPhone. Heck, Samsung marketing team was caught sending tweets from their iPhones. It’s not a surprise. Apple makes a product that they themselves want to use. The rest are making products based on spec sheet.

Like, what.

I once worked at CooperVision and while working there I used a different brand contact lenses.

Your job is just your job, you won’t have to give up your free will come on now...
This Huawei nonsense will clear up in a month. A big company like this won’t fall, they always have a back up plan especially if they have dependency on other companies in their core functionalities.

I know it’s popular to go OMG LOL, but think please.

I’m not surprised an employee was using a competitor’s phone. I was surprised the company let the photographer keep the pic and publish it.

I once worked at a Ford dealership. And the employee parking area had lots of GM and Chrysler brand cars parked in it.

When you’re hired by a company, they don’t force you to repurchase things you already own. Ford doesn’t require you to drive a Ford car to get the job.

The only employees who drove Fords at the time I worked there, were management who had employer supplied vehicles.

I have currently taken a position with a computer and printer company that is very high profile. And they have supplied me with their brand portable computer to use for work. But everything else I own is made by another company (simply because I already owned the other brand’s equipment prior to taking the position).

If a phone company intends their employees to only use their brand of phone, then they need to supply their employees with that phone, and pay the phone bill.

I currently continue using the phone I had prior to taking the position with my employer. And my employer even reimburses me triple my actual phone bill expenses. The company can issue me a company phone, but they’ll be required to provide it to me for free.

They also reimburse all of my transportation expenses. But if they want me to drive a certain car, then they also have to supply that car, and cover every expense for that car (maintenance, insurance, gas, etc.). Which they will do if I elect to take that option.

Any equipment mandated by the employer to be a specific brand and / or model, must be supplied by the company.

Important to remember you're in the old U.S. of A, things are a lot different in China, citizens don't have the same freedoms we have here, working conditions are very different. Like OP stated I too am very surprised they allowed those photos to be published.

In a “staged” photo, yes they probably would have put their brand of phone temporarily in the hand of the person being photographed if the intent at the moment was to use that photo for advertising purposes.

But, even there, they could not make a person purchase a specific phone out of their own pocket money as a condition of employment. Even less likely due to the lower wages typically earned there.

For the average person in China, I can see the government putting a "dark mark" on your social report card if you bought a iPhone over a Huawei. The general public in China is constantly watched.

This is the kind of comment anyone can throw out in a sagely way and where you can fully expect a robotic response of people nodding their heads with furrowed brows and agreeing in an equally sagely manner. Of course there is an alternative response that doesn't consist of any head nodding; sagely, robotically or otherwise.

If i was forced to use a particular brand of phone, i'd change jobs... It's perfectly possibly. The reason it fails always though is lack of security.... Checking before who come in, AND when they leave...

Even bounces at nightclubs don't do this thoughtfully.

Who's to say that hasn't yet been implemented in the 26 city trail at the beginning round 2 of this trade war? lol.

To be honest ... you look at Social Media apps and how youth (gen y and now gen x) how their treating people with so much disrespect, the greed for the almight-dollar and well no real focus of traditional love too early in their lives ... this social report card could have some minimal good that could be applied to society's around the world. SOME not all of it is good.
