Still trying to work out my purchasing decisions, and wondering about the hub/dock for "desktop mode", which I currently have a PC for.

I use an external SSD for my photo editing library, but will probably eventually convert that to an nvme+enclosure for the speed.

So I believe I (current setup) have:
- USB receiver for logitech keyboard+mouse
- SD Card reader
- Single 27" 1440p monitor
- 3.5mm audio out to speakers
- External SSD
- External HDD
- Do not currently have desktop in a place that ethernet is feasible, but would like to consider that

I often see everyone pointing to the CalDigit TS4 as a great dock... and I guess it is really well reviewed. It's also incredibly expensive. It seems anything thunderbolt is, due to licensing/certifications?

Is there a "basic" or cheaper thunderbolt hub that can handle what I need? I often hear a lot about the docks driving multiple 4K displays, which I do not currently need. The whole hub vs dock and massive price range is beyond confusing.

My goal would be to plug in a single cable and handle 100% of the needs, including charging the laptop.
