Some really nice pictures of Hummingbirds. Close-up of a nest from egg till ready to fly. The size comparison is amazing.

tech4all said:wdlove posted that picture in the picture association thread. Don't think he copied the URL properly so the previous URL was pasted here instead. Hopefully we'll get the correct URL because I really want to see what he's talking about

iSaint said:That's amazing to even locate a hummingbird nest let alone track it as you did. Great pics. Those are Rufous Hummingbirds . Where do you live? We live in north, central Mississippi, and we have Ruby Throated Hummingbirds, but my mother has spotted a Rufous at her feeder recently. Thanks for the pics!

devilot76 said:wdlove, I love the picture that establishes the size context!!! Haha, that toothpick and penny look ginormous! I once held a hummingbird (a trained animal specialist had found one that was stunned) that tiny thing felt like it weighed less than a piece of paper.
Haha, this was on some nature-type field trip when I was in... the 3rd or 4th grade, so no, no pics. But yes, the bird was fine after a few seconds-- only a few of us closer to the front were lucky enough to get the opportunity to hold or lightly pet the feathers.wdlove said:I envy you of your experience. It sounds as though it was a fantastic experience. Was the hummingbird able to recovery fully? Any pictures?
