Hungry Sleeper?

I don't know if it is my imagination, but it seems that my computer uses quite a bit of battery power while it is asleep. I reset the PMU but it doesn't seem to have had much of an impact. Does anybody experience the same thing or have a fix for the problem. Thanks for any help.

Sorry, failed to mention that the machine is a 15" MBP (week 22 if that matters).

My G4 Al does the same thing, 24 hours leaves me with 1/2 charge, with a new battery

Yeah, my PowerBook sucks a lot more juice while sleeping than my iBook does...my iBook will only lose like 5% overnight, but my PowerBook can easily lose 25%.

I'm guessing because the PB is more powerful than the ibook it sucks a little bit more juice from the battery.

How much juice is it consuming through the sleep period MaygoYugo?

Turn off or Sleep while in bag?

Once I get my sleeve, and start to bring my macbook to school, what is the better idea to do? I know that sleeping doesn't take up much battery, and is shorter in the the long term, but how hot does it get while sleeping? Will it be too hot to keep on in a sleeve, in a bookbag?

It's fine to keep it in a case while sleeping...it puts out very little heat. The only concern would be if the latch popped open and it woke up while in the case. I have heard of it happening, but only rarely, and even then it almost never does any damage.

How much juice is it consuming through the sleep period MaygoYugo?

I haven't been real scientific about it but it just seems like a bunch more. I must admit that I may be keeping a lot of programs open, but it didn't seem to affect it before.

If I was to take an uneducated guess, I would say it loses a little more than half over night.

I'll conduct a test with all programs closed (other than the Finder) and with a full battery charge and see what it uses in a 12 hour period overnight. I'll post my findings in the morning.

Out of interest, do you have Bluetooth or Airport switched on? They could be sucking away at your precious battery power.

I'm having a similar problem with my MBP (with replaced battery)...

...any reason why this is happening and/or way to stop it?

I mean, I can always shut down, but starting up is loud in class, and, well, it's so much easier to put it to sleep.

Windows puts the contents of RAM on the hard drive before hibernation. OS X is the only one (to my knowledge) that goes to sleep instantly because the RAM remains powered on. PPC machines were designed with OS X in mind (efficient) but the new x86 ones weren't (non-efficient hack).
