Right. Which is why I'm increasingly leaning toward the i5. Since I can buy the i5 without paying taxes, I'd have to pay almost $500 for the i7 - this may just not be worth it. Still, I'm gonna wait until they come out and are thoroughly tested against each other - AND MORE IMPORTANTLY in the real world of using FCP and LS - the pro software I use. Only sad thing is that most websites test a bunch of benchmarks, which I don't give a damn about - I wish they'd test both on FCP and LS, now that I'd be very keenly interested in. Anyhow, I want to wait a few weeks for overall feedback too - see if there are any issues with running hot etc. - this is rev. A hardware after all. Realistically, I think it'll be January 2010 before I order a quad 27" - either the i5 or i7.

Hey Old Corpse, thought it is a little humorous to hear you are waiting to purchase a new iMac. A couple of weeks ago you gave me some advice about waiting, "you could wait, and then wait some more ..... " Anyway, respectfully I enjoyed your reply. Now that the new iMac's are here I am going to order the 21.5" this week, my first mac.

Cheers!

The one thing that i purchased the i7 for which is video encoding does make a significant difference so I should be happy whenever it gets here. Thanks for the info BTW.

You can turn of Hyperthreading using the Developer Tools. I'm more surprised that someone else found that Bit-Tech page.

All in good fun! I'm sure you'll enjoy your 21.5". I was waiting for a few things in iMacs or else I would not pick one up. First and foremost, quad chips - and this they delivered, in spades - desktop chips, wow! Next, I wanted a LED IPS screen. Done - again, in spades, actually 27"! Next, I wanted an SSD option - bzzt! Fail! Then I wanted a matte option on the screen - bzzt! Fail! Then easy access to the HDD - bzzt! Fail! And finally, I wanted a height adjustable stand - bzzt! Fail! Anyhow, I'm still going for it, because the two biggies - quads and LED did it... I can always put in an SSD if I'm brave enough, and I'm putting mine on a wall-mounted arm, so that solves the height adjustable issue. Not perfect, but 90% there. I'm buyin'!!
