Hi,
Just wanted to post and say that I finally just converted to a Mac from windows and have to say that having never used a Mac until now I am blown away by what I was missing I just enjoy my iMac so much more because of how clean the UI on MacOs is compared to windows 10, and the fact that software just works haven't had any major issues. So I can say that I am a happy convert from Windows to MacOs.And I am glad to be here to learn more about Macs from the pros and more advanced users. I can happily say that I will be purchasing apple computers from now on.

Specs of my iMac for those wondering
Late 2015 21.5 Inch Imac
Intel Core i5 1.6ghz
8gb ram
Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536mb
1 TB 5400rpm HDD

I have to say that I am happy with the performance of this computer for what I do these days which consists mostly of basic tasks and browsing the web and maybe watching youtube videos. I do edit some 1080p video every now and again and I have yet to notice my Mac not being fast enough for any tasks.

I have to say that while my windows computer would mop the floor in the performance department I much prefer how much easier and simpler things are on MacOs, I just couldn't be happier matter of fact the only reason that Im keeping my windows pc around is for gaming. Otherwise I would completely get rid of it.

:)

Nice one - it's definitely a different experience on the mac. There's something to be said for stuff just working as it should! Enjoy :)

Well looking at your specs any PC or Mac would make it seem slow. The 1.6GHz CPU is not a real speed hump, and the hard drive is an oh so slow notebook style drive. Delighted you are pleased with it however, but bare that in mind and no problems.

Coming from Windows, resist with all your might putting antivirus and cleaning nsoftware on the iMac.

I have a 1.7GHz i5 but with SSD.

It is a flyer.
An SSD upgrade would make a world of difference!

I too swapped to mac after the new windows 10 release, hate it!
love mac os, sierra is my favorite.

My only major issue is working with .pub files as work uses it.
For this I have to use a co-workers machine as my mac cannot.

Welcome to the mac club :)

I'm on the same page. Finally converted to Mac with the new Macbook Pro and couldn't be happier. It feels great having things just work (and work fast).

I used to complain that Apple was too expensive, so stuck to Dell, but ended up having to replace my laptop every 3 years when the tech failed. I'm hoping the extra money means my Macbook performs for a while.

I'm now waiting on an iMac refresh because my Dell desktop is starting to completely fail. It now takes 10 minutes to start up and is unbelievably slow and pathetic. It's also extremely loud and overheats no matter what you're doing.

However, Apple are really taking their time. I don't want to buy a current gen one only for them to announce the refresh the next week. I'm also assuming SSD becomes the norm and they drop the ridiculous price leap to have it as an "extra".

Given how they use 5400 RPM drives, I'd not be surprised that they continue to use spinning drives as standard configurations.

I think they will continue to use HDD for a long time, its not slow the 5400rpm drive is actually quite fast and a reliable drive from Hitachi which is a good manufacturer.

I will get a external SSD what kind would you guys recommend, since I don't know what would be best with Mac I would love a drive to use for storing video files when I edit.

I would buy now as the guy at my local Apple Store was honest with me and said they had no plans to update iMac models until the next MacOs release.

Yeah I know what you mean, I still keep windows for gaming. And because While I'm not licensed for it I fix a lot of computers for people in the area. And use my windows to get some of the software I use onto devices and stuff and because I have to keep it around for some stuff.

But I love my Mac and Im kicking myself for taking so long to swap. Macs run so much smoother even without high end software seems to be a lot better optimization going on.
