I just wanted to share the news with my new Mac family.....my wife can't relate with my excitement about dumping my Dell, so I got to share it here:

I waited and waited....since Dec, first for Leopard in March (didn't happen), then the rumored upgrade at WWDC (didn't happen), and for every "next Tuesday" in between (nothing).

I couldn't wait any longer and figured it doesn't matter how sweet the upgrade is or isn't, the current model is great. So that's what I did.....all in with the 24" iMac, 2.16Ghz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 256MB VRAM!!

Of course, most anything is an upgrade over my 5 year old Dell with 19" flat panel monitor, 1.6Ghz, 256MB RAM, 80GB HDD, 32MB VRAM.

No more waiting for me.....except for UPS to show up....!!!:D

That is a great machine. You will be quite happy with it, and if anything now that nothing has come out will only kick yourself a little bit for not going in a bit sooner. If and when there is a Santa Rosa update, you will probably be looking at a 2.2 vs 2.16 CPU, same RAM - maybe 2GB but doubt it, and same HDD. They may change the video options, but you did the right thing getting the 256. The FSB on Santa Rosa also goes up, and of course there is a rumored aluminum case redesign, however all that said, the specs will be marginally higher at best, and while the Santa Rosa machines can do 4GB instead of 3GB max RAM, you probably aren't going to be feeling that ceiling anyway. So don't worry, and enjoy your new Mac. Welcome to OS X. :)

This seems to be contagious, I just pulled the trigger also on the 24" iMac stock version. I will not look back on my purchase as I agree with roland.g - if they do update it will be only a marginal gain. UPS should be showing up tonight.

I just purchased, too. I only got the 20" (since I'm fresh out of college and broke!), but I upraded the RAM and video card. I can't wait for it to get here!

I really want a 24in imac, but I waited since Dec. so I am committed to waiting for something new... I don't like the idea of paying the same price for something that came out 9 months ago when it comes to computers- I want the best deal (at the time)... I wish I would have bought one back in Dec... now I am playing this waiting game- if I have to wait much longer than I might as well wait till leopard is install and the new ilife... I waited this long- what's a couple of more months....  :(

November for me. I have been waiting so long that waiting a bit longer is no big deal......except for the fact that I can't stand waiting any longer. Add to that the fact that Apple gives absolutely no indication about when anything will occur and it starts to make you crazy. Even makes you run out after the keynote and look at Windows Vista machines, though buying one is obviously out of the question.

What's due in November? Is this the next big Apple event? If so, that will be too long a wait for me. I was hoping for info countering the Mac Mini death rumor from WWDC but that didn't happen.

My plan now will probably be to get the low-end Mini, a mid-range Core 2 Duo processor and max out the RAM. This should be a fine 1.42GHz G4 Mini replacement for the one I sold.

It's rumored that new iMacs might be released in late June, rumored new touchscreen 6G iPods in September or October, confirmed release of Leopard in October, possible Stoakley Seaburg platform update for the Mac Pro in late autumn, possible Penryn release in November and Penryn update to macs at MacWorld 2008, possible tablet sometime in 2008, possible iLife '08 at MacWorld 2008 and possible release of Montevina platform in Quarter 2, 2008.

You wont be disappointed, I made the Apple switch a few years ago and have never looked back. Apple make great hardware and software, you've made the right decision.

I have been thinking if to switch or not since Jan this year so I guess I can wait a little longer :D.

Then it is possible that a Mac Mini in a new form factor could be introduced. Just wish I could hold out for another five months. My needs are just too immediate.

Apple Expo Paris. That's where the current iMac was announced IIRC.

Oh, sorry, I was a bit distracted when I replied to your post. The Apple Expo is September 25-29. So not that far away. But who knows if they'll announce anything there. The iPhone has certainly turned things upside down.

It's great to see this thread with such positive sentiment to the current iteration of iMacs. I too have a 24" iMac that I purchase about 3 months ago...and absolutely adore.

There's always so much talk and anticipation over each upgrade that comes down the pike that I find it somehow tarnishes the current offering.

I don't know if it is good or bad but I do know that I love my 24" iMac and am glad to see that I have some company.

The current iMac 24" is a great computer. If I hadn't bought the MacBook in december it would have been on my desk right now. But I didn't have enough money to buy one until now, and I want the most out of that money. Since the iMac hasn't been updated for 280 days now, it's most likely that it will pretty soon.

It's just a matter of investing your hard earned money into something that will last as long as possible. That doesn't mean that the current offering is bad, but it doesn't give you the most value for your money.

I just think people hype it up so much. If you take that hype to heart, then you would think that the current models will cease to operate following whatever update/revision that Apple does. What seems to escape most, is that you are still getting a great machine that will last quite a while.

I agree. That is why I bought the mbp. Buy the item when you get the most for your money.
