2 days ago, i brought my M1 Macbook Pro 8GB/512 home. I can't put it to words, how amazing this thing is.
I have put it through normal use string, loads of tabs, apps open, spreadsheets on sheets. Even Garageband, basically, massive load on that I don't even normally have.
I can barely hear the fan with all of this, to be honest, I am freaking out a bit, could it be faulty? :) Can someone put my mind at ease? And there isn't even a tool to see what temps are and how fast the fan is spinning.

Last mac I owned was 5 years ago, and that thing ran crazy hot, I am just very very amazed and a little concerned.

First people complain of fan noise in Intel Macs, now complaining about how quiet the M1 Mac is. Must be something defective. Apple sometimes I feel sorry for you. You can't win for losing. ?

I am not complaining, it's just unusual to me, coming from intel mac in the past and a gaming windows pc before M1 MB Pro. I looooooove this thing, I wish I could just hear it once so that my mind would be put at ease.

I mean look at this, poor scrensbot though, but I assure, all the MS office apps are open...a lot of safary and chome tabs, I must use chrome if I need to open work G-Suite, we use sheets, which are normally very heavy. I mean, my freaking god, I am happy, and that is all running perfectly on 8GB of ram.

Consider seeing if your G-suite work will function in Microsoft Edge or another chromium browser that isn't actually Chrome.

Worth reading this thread: I will consider Chrome a malware from now on.. | MacRumors Forums

One of my first tests was to run "Mini Motorways". On my old 2013 MBP, it turned my laptop into a very noisy space heater. No noise, no noticeable heat. It's refreshing to have a computer that can actually run things without breaking a digital sweat.

With the computer idling, the M1 fan is off while my IntelMBP has them going at ~1300 RPM. I can get the M1's fan to come on and even ramp up to 6000 RPM with rendering from a Lego app, but they are quieter at the same speeds than the ones on my old MBP. Fan noise was a primary concern for me, so I tested them side by side.

With my old macbook pro mid 2015 I was hearing the fan sometimes even while only browsing the web. Now I am using the MBP M1 daily for over one month also for video and photo editing and haven't heard the fan even for 1 second. Really amazing.

Did it get hot at any point? I mean, it's freaky right?

Agree with OP, these machines are out of this world!

Also agree with Chrome being a malware!

Running Capture One 21 which is a dog of a program and eats up CPU/GPU Not M1 native and the mini just stays cool an d quiet. If it was an Intel machine it would be fans sounding like a hair dryer and the app stuttering

How does C1 run on the M1 Mini? What do you think of it?

God knows i agree with you. But since we're all working from home, and even us independent contractors must use the "Approved" tools ...I was planning to install Edge, but the M1 version is in the Canary stage right now.
There is a DEV version for M1 of Edge available now.

It was still freaking me out, ran Cynebench, heard the fan, I am at peace now... Cause Chrome, Firefox etc won't do it no matter how many tabs with the video you open, even in 4k... at least now I know it's not defective and I can sleep at night. Thank you all!

OP,

My M1 is so quiet, your posts come across as shouting and its hurting my ears. :D
I get that, and I am sorry! It's hard to come over from intel, when you have heard something for years, and now you don't on normal daily use! But if someone is going to look for same thing, I am sure I'm not alone, they can read this thread! :))))
