I am getting my Imac on the 17 the very same day Star Trek gets released on Blu-Ray

yeah too bad you can't watch it on your new iMac.
Just port a Blu-ray player into your iMac with the display port. Then again, would have been so much nicer to have blu-ray already in it.

Sure you can. Star Trek Blu-ray comes with a digital copy.

Not so easy... to hook up a PS3 or any other HDMI 1080p device (think blu ray player, cable box, sat box), your gonna need a hdmi-dvi scaler ($240) then a dvi-mini displayport converter ($180)
i dont think the digital copy is going to be 1080P

agreed... its just a shame that with such a gorgeous display you cant take advantage of it with blu ray movies.
Ive not tried the itunes "Hd" but i have heard its laughable to consider it true HD content.

you can add Bluray support by replacing your stock super drive for a Panasonic UJ-135A (mentioned on ifixit.com)
VLC plays the m2ts files fine, you just need to open the directories, BDROM, STREAM, look for the largest file.
I've played blu-ray ISO rips fine even on my older 24" iMac, though native support would be awesome.
