Due to complaints of lockups with the 4850 (not just on this board); and the fact that the Mini that was listed to be here on 4/17 will not be here until Tuesday, 4/21, I am refusing delivery of the Mini and am calling Apple and canceling my iMac w/ 4850 order. Yes, I could cancel online, but I want to tell them why they have lost a first time buyer.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/7A280f Safari/525.20)

Enjoy yor pc!!

The lockup issue will be fixed by a driver or firmware update, as it was on previous occasions. However, if you really want to cut off your nose to spite your face go ahead.

As for the mini being a whole four days late, well, that's just the end of the world isn't it? I so totally understand your response there.

You really will be missed, thanks for your great contribution to world peace..

Bon Voyage, adios!

If you change your mind, well don't, stick to PC.

Yes, I could cancel online, but I want to tell them why they have lost a first time buyer.

I'm sure they won't really care, tbh.

If you're looking to call them to have an arguments b/c you want them to feel bad for your situation - which is how it sounds, very "cutting my nose off to spite my face", don't bother. The person on the other end of the phone will not be responsible for your Mini being 4 days late, or for the freezing problems of the iMac.

Just cancel it online and be done with it. What's the point in letting them package a whole computer and ship it to you for no reason?

Someone locate this person's address. I'll be happy to take that Mini off your hands at no cost.

Oh my god ... Apple is lost cause you are going to cancel your order!!

Please, i beg ya..

/sarcasm

(not just on this board) ... nice ... oh you forgot the link. This is THE only board with 4850 users having problems.

First time buyer ... figures.

You do know on forums all you hear are the <1% of users experiencing problems, and not the >99% of users that are having no problems?

Keep the mini and wait for an 4850 iMac fix and then buy it too ...

Best advice that can be given... there's no problem with the new Minis and they're great machines. Keep the Mini, and if you're so worried about the iMac, either cancel that order and wait, or change it to the one with the GT130. Easy decision, huh? Actually, you may be quite happy with the Mini and see no need for the iMac. Why did you order TWO Macs for your first time purchase? I would've at least only gotten one see if you liked it...

*much foot-stomping and petulance*

*sniff*
We're really sorry to see you go…

Yes exactly. Many people (for some reason) entertain this fantasy that whenever they complain loudly to managers and supervisors, that the person is going march right over and immediately fire or otherwise punish the employee who you are complaining against. Take it from me, most supervisors couldn't care less and complaining serves only to give them something to laugh about in the break room later. As for Apple, the person on the phone is exactly that: a person working at a call center who probably deals with 50 disgruntled customers a day. They won't care.

Change of heart?

I called Apple to cancel the iMac. I also told them my intent to refuse the Mini when it arrives.

The agent said, "Sorry but it is already in "prepared for shipment" status." I then went online and she was right. The iMac shows PFS.

She then asked why I was gong to refuse the Mini. I told her that earlier in the week, when I ordered it, I was told it would be here by Friday. And that even while in PFS state, it said it wold be here today yet the FedEx track shows Tuesday while the website shows Monday. She said, "what can I do to convince you to accept it? I am sure you will like it if you do.". I said, "Give it free". She said, "I can not do that but because it shipped late, and you are not paying for shipping, I will credit you $50 on the Mini part of the order.".

Now get this, I already was upgraded to free overnight on it and the iMac. Given $150 off the iMac on top of my Educ. discount, and now they are going to knock another $50 off the Mini?

So. I am going to eat my words and go ahead and take the Mini in.

As far as the iMac goes, since I can not cancel it, another choice is to refuse it. But I guess I will go ahead and get it too since it is apparent it is shipping very soon and I may get it as early as next Wednesday or Thursday.

To all those posters that had positive comments to my situation, thanks for sticking by a new Mac user. To those with not so nice comments and to those who made PMs taking jabs....no comment.

MT,

Your last phone call to Apple is why they are one of the greastest companies in the world for customer service. I'm not saying that Apple products are perfect, but the "Apple Experience" is like no other.

Congrats on the upcoming Macs -- I think you will enjoy them!

Cancelling a Mac Order!

I do understand your frustration, but even a broken Mac run over by an 18 wheeler is better than any windows based PC. I am in the IT field and I work with both however I have for the last 20 years and I will always prefer to deal with the minor issues Apple has over the vast and magnificent issues anyone could have with a PC and Windows operating system especially Puke-Vista.

If you ever had a PC 10 years ago, remember Microsoft's fix to Windows 95, it was Windows 98, then revised 98 (SE) Second Edition, then I can't even say their next attemps with out wanting to Hurl, hummm ummm Millenium...Puke....

I will take my Apple any day and deal with the one issue here and there, at least I will sleep better.

Whilst I don't agree with your initial statement and think you really over reacted over the Mac mini being one day late issue (the iMac is fair game, if you're *that* worried), and being awkward refusing delivery etc etc, it is wrong that people were PM'ing you abuse.

I'd get in touch with a Mod regarding that.

Congratulations on your new purchases, and I hope you enjoy them - for your sake AND Apple's.

I really think you would be making a serious mistake. Think about it. First of all, the lockups may not even affect you. 2nd, 10.5.7 will be released very soon, and it could help with any new bugs that the new iMacs may come with. 3rd, Apple will not just sit on this problem and do nothing about it. They will come out with a new driver or whatever is needed to fix this.

Don't give in so easily. I believe in Apple. You should too. PC's are junk as far as I am concerned with their constant crashing, having to buy virus software etc etc... Move up to a Mac. You will be glad you did.

Just my thoughts. Do as you wish. But I hope you can live with your decision.
