I have a Core Duo MacBook, i got it the week they were originally introduced, I also have the AppleCare plan. Previously my MagSafe adapter has caught on fire. (they replaced the adapter) So you might say we have a love/hate relationship. So I'm just going to list the current problems.

1. Discolored palmrests.
2. Screen flickers, like the brightness goes up and down normally when i first start it up, also the display doesnt seem a bright as it used to be.
3. Almost constant freezing, it's pretty obvious it's a hardware problem since i've reinstalled OS X 3 times. (It passes the Apple hardware test)
4. MagSafe adapter light does not light up.
5. It gets hot for no reason, I'm sitting here just browsing and you would think that i am encoding video.
6. When the battery gets low it shuts down instead of sleeping.

I really just want them to replace it instead of trying to repair ALL of that.

So if I call do you think they will replace it?

Looks like a major repair.
I had the same problems and in my case they just replaced the parts. But you may have luck. Ditch the helpdesk people and ask for a technician to talk to. They are usually kind guys that will tell you no BS about what can be done.

When I was in for a Logic Board replacement, one of those tech guys suggested me on the phone to wait as there was gonna be a long wait before I got back my machine. Another one hinted that they knew the heat problem was caused by improper thermal grease application, "unofficially" that is.

for discoloured palm rests i believe that was pretty much a recall issue..but i don't know if they just replace the casing or the whole machine. If the screen is dying they will fix that or replace the screen or something. depends how picky they are. I did well whining and complaining and raising my voice on teh phone..it got me a free battery and keyboard :p and i only was breaking arrow keys. But definately try to talk to a technician and keep reemphasizing your problems and the huge list of them....they might figure to heck with it and replace the whole thing :) I don't guaruntee anything for the hot thing...my friend's macbook does the same thing for net browsing..its a core duo thing. see what you can do!

Are you able to replicate these problems on demand? If so I don't think that there would be much of an issue getting Apple to replace the unit. Make sure that you detail all of the variables that affect the system, what you are doing, what is loaded, how the system behaves, etc. This will help when you are talking to the techs. (Remember, always approach the techs politely, and ask them if they can help you out with this problem. Always appeal to their sense of supreme geek;) )

Good Luck
