I have searched but i think it is easier if i just ask. Where is a tutorial showing how to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0.1 on Windows XP?? And where can i find all the files I need?

Just download an update to 3.0.1 in iTunes, and just download/run redsnow 0.8 and just point it to the 3.0 IPSW and let it run, it will easily jailbreak your 3.0.1 device. :)

I have the same request

Getting the 3.0 firmware is the hard part ... I'm on Vista and when I dl the file for the 3gs, I get a zip file ... not an ipsw file ... I'd love to have someone point me at the ipsw file ... or send it to me via email (fuzzywuzhe at aol.com)

Why don't you just use the one that iTunes gave you? You should be able to find a good copy via torrent. The file is completely legal to download because it is free anyway.

I've looked in itunes ... the only file is the 3.1 restore ... what is torrent?

I would think it would be easier to just send the file via a zip folder ... then I could unzip and have the correct 3gs file ... but I'll try to figure out torrent ... I'm assuming this is a pc program .. I really don't want to buy a mac to jb my 3gs, just because I was whipped and accidently "upgraded" my jb'd phone

my problem is when you dl the 3gs 3.0 file, it's not an ipsw file in the zip folder ... when I extract the files red snow won't point at either the zip file or any of the extracted files ... I've been told to change the extension to .ipsw but I can't figure out how to do that

Just click on it to highlight it, and then click on it again, and you should be able to change the name. Or just click on it and then press Command + i and edit the name and press enter. :)

I can change the name to .ipsw, but it's still a zip file ... ie .... iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw.zip

the .zip part isn't part pf the name I can change ... hence my problem ... I'm guessing this is easier on an apple

I love how we are taking over this thread, but anyway,

the .zip part isn't part pf the name I can change ... hence my problem ... I'm guessing this is easier on an apple

Once you extract the files they should no longer be associated with .zip . Extract the files to your desktop and delete the .zip file as to cut any ties with it. Then direct the program to the files on your desktop.
Did this work?

nope ... it's lookimg for am ipsw file ... sorry if I'm steppomg pn toes ... but the guy who started the thread is goimg to have the same issues if he's on a pc ... or others needing to do this from a pc ... I'm getting the feeling a mac is needed

why can't you just delete the ".zip" part?

when I try to change the file name the .zip isn't part of the name ... if I go to properties ... it still shows it as a zip file ... adding .ipsw to the file name doesn't change the file type
