Went to town to look at a new 5K mac, and ordered a base Mac pro and a Samsung 590 4k Monitor.

The old 2012 I mac will replace the dos machine.....

My reasoning at the spur of the moment, was I could upgrade and mac pro over time. Upgrading the processor looks like a better deal. Memory is Memory. The SSD is solvable with with an external SSD.

But I am curious about the video cards. It looks like if I wanted to upgrade at a future date from the d300 to the d700 the only way would be ordering though apple parts. Any one have an idea what apple sells the dual d700 cards for?

Also any guess if apple is going to support upgraded components to the mac pro?, or is it going to be a throw away as the Imac is?

I think it will work for me in the long run, but I was sort of surprised at how closes the architecture actually is.

Still trying to figure out what I did

Thanks

Russ

I'm afraid there's no definite indication that the graphics cards will ever be upgradeable, at this stage at least.

The CPU can be upgraded if you're confident with dealing with the internals.

At this moment, the only feasible GPU upgrade is via TB, but still no clear solution yet.

I can't find any 3rd party or 2nd hand nMP GPU on the internet yet. So, I don't think it's possible to get a pair of D700 and upgrade it by yourself.
