I remember when I saw the Music keynote last year and was pretty excited too see the next Nano (wasn't into rumors back then) and when they finally revealed it I was having a "Wtf-laugh" and instantly told myself "Oh well..back to Classic for me", while previously owning almost every Nano and iPod overall.
I thought it's just a mock-up so buyers go straight to iPod Touch price, I thought the screen and menu would be literally not usable, only negatives to cut it short. Besides, I kinda hate touchscreen.
How wrong could I be .. Restarting running I decided to buy the new nano thinking that although I'd hate it, the size would be perfect for running and clip was a good idea.
After the first 5 minutes after unboxing, I couldn't let it slip my hands. The menu is FABULOUS, it well-thought and it's very practical. This is for me the fastest operating iPod ever as in how quick you generally operate it and the speed of course there because it's flash memory.
Controls through a song is just great, the little Info in the lower right corner for quick access to the rest of the album's songs, the hardware keys are great, I love the way the cover is displayed like you are holding some sort of mini-digital-album-displayer you see in shops. The spinning screen is the best idea. I don't even need to take of the iPod from clothes, I just operate it straight away. And all the other small things, plus the audio quality is really great !
Because of the small screen, your finger finds everything a lot faster than on an a 4" screen. To be ultimately perfect, transforming that large bezel into screen would do it, although I don't neceserally need it, it's just a personal wish.
What I initially thought to be my 2nd rarely used iPod turned out to be my main music player so I am very tempted to change now to a 16GB version.
However, I am asking if in September they will release a 32GB version. I personally doubt it, Nanos have always been about 16GB at most and it would probably eat the Touch one shares.. but who knows, maybe prices of flash memory will be cheaper by then.
Are there any rumors about it ? I remember seing about adding a camera (which I don't need anyway and looks a bit goofy on a such a small device), anything else ?
I currently have all my "must-have/favourite/most-played" music so far in there and I have around 1.5GB left. But I will surely need the extra space pretty soon.. Should I wait or buy now.. I am also thinking they might improve the battery life a bit in the next revision.
