I know it sounds dumb but im trying to make it look reasonable.

So, would squared, as in the square of these numbers, abbreviate to sqr?

ie (X)^2 could be Xsqr?

For me, sqr would make me think of square root rather than squared. I agree with JohnNotBeatle- a superscripted 2 would be a much more common designation. If that can't be done, then sq would seem better than sqr- but still not good.
 
sqr wouldn't make me think of "squared".....don't think it works without the "d"
