I am an iphone user for nearly ten years, to upgrade from my very good iphone 7 plus, I decided to buy myself an iphone 12. I have learned a lot of information about it, everything is very ok in price range. But I missed 1 very important detail that it uses Oled screen.

The first few days of using it I felt very strange, it made my eyes tired every time I looked at it and it was harder to sleep, but I don't know why. I think it's because of my mood or my health. Every time I look at the iPhone 12 for a while, I feel eyestrain. But when using iphone 7 plus, it is very soothing, I have used iphone 7 plus for 4 years and have no problems at all. My eyes are still 10/10.

At night, I often set the brightness to the lowest, using on iphone 7 plus is very comfortable, but holding through iphone 12 is extremely uncomfortable. I did some research online and learned that the reason is the iphone 12's oled screen will flicker a lot no matter how bright it is. The lower the brightness, the more annoying it is. I went to the iphone showroom and returned the screen of iphone 12 to 14. All iphone OLED series have screen flickering and make my eyes tired.

After nearly 2 months of trying to endure the discomfort, I accepted defeat and decided to return the machine to the store. I was charged 25% of the value of the device, which is a large amount of money for me, but I feel very comfortable and happy because I have parted with this iphone 12. The time using iphone 12 for me is really a torture. The machine is very good, sensitive, high speed, the only downside is that the screen is very yellow and very eye-strain when used. It gave me headaches and trouble sleeping for over a month.

I have decided to buy myself an iphone 11 with IPS screen to protect my eyes and sleep, even though the iphone 11 screen is not sharp, face id cannot be used when wearing a mask. If apple continues to use OLED screens for future iPhone generations, I will stop at iphone 11.

Sorry everyone, my english is not good

PWM is the archenemies of sensitive eyes. Sadly no one cares about this group.
Buying iPhone 11 is only delaying the inevitable imo, as smartphone manufacturers moving away from LCD at a fast speed. We will see what’s happening in the coming years.

I have a friend who is a nurse. As a student and student, she is not nearsighted, her eyes are good. But after graduating from school, started using samsung oled screen phones, then iphone 13 promax until now, she has myopia of 3.5 degrees. Her job as a nurse doesn't do much reading on a computer or books, just using her phone. I asked and guessed that the cause of her nearsightedness comes from using the phone too much and especially the oled screen.
I noticed that, people with pre-existing eye diseases, they do not realize that the oled screen makes their eyes tired, the most painful, but they think that due to the nature of their eyes is not good, so they are tired.

I hope Apple continue using LCD panels on the SE line for people who suffer from PWM. If I were having those problems I wouldn’t be using an OLED phone either.

I don’t think I suffer from PWM. While I know what it is I do not think it bothers me. I enjoy the screen of my iPhone 13 Pro Max but…

I’ve found that I cannot read on it for long periods of time. I am an avid reader and since 2018 I’ve gone completely e-book. The iPad Pro 11 was the device that unlocked this for me - I could read 6-10 hours non-stop (restroom breaks of course) on a weekend and be completely fine.

My iPhone 13 Pro Max? No matter how hard I try, I cannot read on it comfortably. I get a headache and eye strain trying to read on it for more than an hour. And I really tried. I just cannot read on that screen for long periods of time.

I’m very nearsighted - I don’t need reading glasses because I can see things up close (I can see the threads in my jeans). I am however very nearsighted so take away my glasses and I can’t see much. Probably why I am such a reader because it’s something I can do fairly comfortably.

TLDR: While I don’t think I have PWM, I’ve never been able to read on my iPhones comfortably unlike my iPads For long periods of time.

If you use a phone or ipad with IPS screen without eye strain when reading for a long time, then I think you using ip13 prm your eyestrain is caused by PWM. PWM frequency on ip13 prm is 238hz similar to iphone 12 226hz then i think it will affect same as i experienced with iphone 12
Ever since I returned my iPhone 12 to the store, I feel a sense of relief every time I hold my iPhone 7. I feel more love my iphone 7 plus even though it had to replace the battery, damaged mainboard to repair nearly 100 dollars
