I bought iphone 3gs yesterday....the battery sucks! Help Please.

I charged it this morning and this evening the battery is very low without me doing anything on the phone...

I have 3.0 firmware on there, and i have unlocked and jailbreaked it.

How can i improve the battery?

i would suggest try restoring it back to default firmware 3.1 or 3.0 and see if your battery problems get fixed. Sounds like u have something running all the time that is killing your battery life. If restoring doesn't fix the battery it may be hardware problem and might need replaced.

Itunes is telling me to upgrade to 3.0.1....should i upgrade?

Maybe that will fix the problem?

also

if you search you will find many many threads on how to fix battery performance Battery. Just a thought there is allot of info both here and google on it, even youtube.

edit yes on the upgrade but it will have little effect on battery life also you will have to redo the jailbreak.

Of course, upgrade.

No matter what that guy up there says, it is NOT normal for the phone to die over the course of one day without being used much, location services or not.

i leave all that stuff on all the time, and at the end of the day (a couple texts, a few calls) and my battery is still full. probably use 3 pixels of battery per day, with location services, 3G, etc. on the whole time.

if you just bought it, you shoulda conditioned the battery right out of the gate. anyway, do it now. go look it up... basically run it all the way down and let it sit empty for a few hours, then charge way up and leave on charger for a few hours. do it all again. now yer set.

Live with it. Or change your phone.
Seriously, calibrate your battery more and do some searching..

PS- There are external battery chargers out there.

He just got his phone yesterday. Calibration doesn't explain his issue.

Seriously, do some reading. :)

Edit: I figured I might as well give you a good read for battery information made by an MR member:

Edit2: I don't see any use of the word "rude" in my post? Do you?

First of all, give it a couple of days. New batteries take a few days and full charge cycles to hit their peak. I noticed looooow battery life in my first days as well. Drain the sucker all the way down (as close to 0 as you can) and then charge it all the way up.

I use mine as an iPod a lot and do a bit of browsing. I've used it a normal amount today, and it's at 54 percent. I'm usually in the 40 to 60 percent remaining range unless I listen to an entire baseball game on MLB At Bat or something like that. I charge it every night so I don't risk killing the battery before I get home.

Turn your screen brightness down a bit to save some juice. Keep Bluetooth off unless you're using it. That's the best advice I can give.

I had the exact same problem for the first few days & then I calibrated my battery 2 times. Now I get exceptional battery life.
