I purchased a new 13 Pro Max for my wife. Despite the fact that it's been setup for a month with her own Apple ID and email, every time I open Settings on my iPhone (up to date 11 Pro) I'm reminded that I need to set up my new iPhone. The response from a brief chat session was "backup/erase/restore your phone". Who's to say this will work? Bah humbug!

I think you might be misinterpreting what you're being asked to do. Your phone is obviously already set up. It's probably just asking you to verify yourself by entering the asked for credentials.

I should have posted a screen shot. Apple are offering me extra iCloud space, to back up my current phone. I can turn on iCloud for Photos etc, which I don't use because I have too much data on the phone. I did go through the steps they wanted me to. Turn on the backup, then wait and turn it off. The screen comes back. I notice that this free extra storage expires soon. I guess the prompt may disappear. The fact that the iPhone is set up with an Apple ID already is the bug. Apple just suggest erasing my phone and restoring it. A lot of people don't understand that internet in Australia is generally rubbish. I don't want to risk the iCloud method. So I have to use my Macbook. I mean obviously it's a mild annoyance But there should simply be a "I don't need to do this" button because it feels like I'm being pushed to do something that should be optional. I filed it as a bug. They charge $2000+ for these phones. They should fix the bugs.
