I pre ordered the 16gb wifi + 3G from Apple. Yesterday I was able to pick up the iPad from Best Buy. Walked in and walked out in 5 minutes.

After using the iPad all day yesterday I started to think about how it will actually function in my household. It wont be used all that much outside my own wifi network and when it does leave the house, a simple jailbreak of the iphone and tether will fulfill the 3g requirement.

Also I noticed that 14gb (the actual space available) fills up REAL fast. I might wait until the next gen iPad or buy a larger model when the time comes.

All in all, I'm happy with the purchase yesterday but think I will wait to see what happens in the product development before spending $600 - $800 on the iPad right now.

Day 1

Folks are already saying so full on first day. Go for 64GB.
It,s the only way to pad.

Via the iPad. ;)

Same here. When I thought about the times i would actually take it out and use it, there will be wifi. Granted i might have to pay, but it's cheaper than paying AT&T $14 and also the $100 extra upfront.

If you hang out only in places where there's wifi, and/or if you are willing to restrict your use of the device to certain places, wifi is fine.

But the advantage of 3g is that you can use it almost anywhere - at the bar, at the restaurant, at the beach, in the car when you're not driving, etc.

I think in a couple of years, the fact that there was ever a wifi-only version will be the answer to a trivia question.

I'm happy with the 16GB ipad. And 16Gb is alot IMO. And i use clear 4G so if they ever make a real "Mifi" i can use that if i need connectivity on the road.

I'm super happy I decided to get 64GB wifi instead of 3G 32GB. I can always tether with my iPhone. And as for GPS I still have my iPhone so I'm not too worried about that. I love this thing. Its incredible.

:D:D:apple:

To each his own. I have more music than I'll ever listen to on my iPad already and a couple movies and TV shows (which I'll never watch), and I still have 6GB free space. I'll never use that. I'll use this device for apps and web browsing. I have a feel there are quite a few other people that feel the same.

I was thinking the same thing as well. If I really want GPS and 3G, I have the iPhone with me. Why pay for something I already have. :)

I get the feeling this is just the beginning. Next year Apple will probably release an iPad with front facing camera or other enhanced features. I think I will wait a bit longer. For now though, this thing is awesome. The display is fantastic and I love the functionality and ease of use.

Just for fun I paired up a wireless keyboard and placed the iPad on a picture stand. Defintely a netbook killer. :)

at the same time, the ipad is not an iPhone. Are you going to schlep your ipad around to bars, restsurants? It's not a pocketable item. There are some uses for the 3g like in the car, but I think you will not be using the ipad in as many places as an iPhone just due to the size

that said I would still get the 3g version. But I acknowledge that it is going to be a "premium" feature

The one day you need it is the day you wish you paid for the feature. Plus GPS is a must have for me.

Having the flexibility for the one time you need it is worth the 130 dollars extra.

I am still using my original ipod touch ( 3 years at least) so I can see getting as many years out of the iPad 3G so the extra 130 is nothing.

We've gotten by tethering with the Palm Pre and the new Overdrive 4G hotspot product. The performance through the Overdrive is excellent. Through the Pre, it's good enough for browsing, but streaming video barely plays.

All in all, I'm thoroughly pleased with my decision to go with 64GB WiFi-only models.

I got the 16 gig. I have about 5 genius playlists so about 500 songs. I have 11,500 songs on my iPod classic. I'm using the iPad for web browsing and app usage.
