i Cannot get Gmail to sync set items from my phone to be under "Sent" at Gmail.com and my iphone.

i changed the filter to delete from my gmail address so i do not get copies sent to my iphone of my sent messages but i do not get sent items to sync between the server and my phone

when i change the filter to skip the inbox and archive it i get copies sent to my inbox of my messages sent.

what a mess, has anyone properly set up their gmail yet?

I am a little sleepy so I am sure it is me who is not following you correctly.

But as far as I know Gmail for the iPhone is a pop implementation. How would it sync sent mails?

You've done better than me

As the previous poster stated, you shouldn't be able to sync sent items, as POP only sends you files in your inbox.

I could only download 5 of about 50 e-mails today from Google. Hope it starts working soon, or I might have to just switch over to Yahoo. The IMAP works much better...

Are you using the method: recent.xxxxx@gmail.com as the username?

can't sync with pop, and getting sent messages is a gmail pop issue if I remember correctly. also, gmail deletes after sending the message, not before.

Filters don't affect what is sent to your iPhone.

I know it's a mess, but I've run into the same problem (I autoarchive all my mailing list emails to de-clutter my inbox, obviously getting over a hundred msgs in one day to my iPhone is not feasible), and others have as well, but google has yet to do anything about it.

I dont understand this issue with the recent option. I access my GMail from 3 different POP clients. On two of them, I check the option "Leave a copy of messages on server" (using Outlook on all three). On the third PC, I actually download all the messages and remove them from the server. So as long as I dont check my mail with that PC, mail is always up there for any of my clients to download, including the iPhone.

Obviously there are a few drawback to pop email on multiple devices. In regards to this, I was thinking about a workaround, such as forwarding my gmail to a new account I could set up on my domain and using IMAP for that, but then using the Gmail SMTP so that the from address would still be from the gmail account.

I haven't tried that yet, so I'm not sure if it will work.

In the meantime, I was having problems sending mail from the WiFi at my office, so I tried manually entering in the google addresses for the pop and smtp settings instead of selecting the GMail option in iPhone mail setup wizard. This allowed me to try pop.googlemail.com instead of pop.gmail.com. This seemed to solve that problem and I'm sending and recieving with no problems now. Not just that though, it also seems to have some bonus features.

Now I'm not getting copies of the emails I send from the iPhone placed into the iPhone inbox (as was the case before). They show up in the sent folder on my iPhone (as they should) and they are still displaying as sent items on the gmail webmail.

I'm sort of wondering why have the email setup wizard put in pop.gmail.com when pop.googlemail.com seems to have different features that would be more favorable to the iPhone.
