I notice when I reboot the login screen does not detect my Apple Magic KB and trackpad. I have to login with the MacBook first and then they work. Is this normal?

I believe if file vault is on especially it effects what hardware can work at this stage, with it turned on the login screen is actually more of a HDD unlock screen than a true login screen yet, and the OS has not truly started loading yet.

Thanks. I have vault on I’d say it lets me type at the login screen about 25% of the time when I reboot. With vault off it works 100%. I thought I read FileVault doesn’t effect apple kbs etc.

I think with vault on it may depend on how complete a shutdown happened during the reboot, but I've never actually used external devices for unlocking so I can't comment too authoritatively, just recalled that the login screen behaves quite differently with relation to how far OS is loaded at the point it's shown.
