i can't access anything but the phone

I can't navigate on the phone, it only moves between the phone/contacts. If I press the button at the top, the screen goes dark, and when I hit the bottom button there is an arrow under the time with a reverse/fast-forward type button on it. I can't even get the phone to turn off to try to reboot.

Your phone automatically locks after a set time (the default is one minute). Use your finger to slide that bar to the far right, which should unlock the phone. Then you should be able to start playing around.

You may want to read the user's manual for the phone to get started!

thanks - it wasn't that i needed to unlock it, i needed to reset it. It had frozen and wouldn't move from the phone to any other application. I figured out how to reset and all is well.

I would just like to suggest that you read up on the ways to "unstick" the iPhone. You will need them...
