Hey. I can't seem to drag links from safari to my desktop. I assumed it must've had something to do with MacOS user privileges so I created a new profile but the same thing happens. Is there a way to solve this or is this normal behavior in Catalina?

I just found out that I can't delete files from my desktop either.

This is not normal behavior in Catalina. I'm on a 2019 MacBook Air running macOS Catalina (10.15.1) and I can drag links from Safari to the Desktop.

This bit is the most telling.. it means you cannot make changes to the Desktop folder - which explains why you cannot add links from Safari. It sounds like the permissions of the Desktop folder got corrupted somehow.

not sure if its remotely even similar to the problem you have, but when i drag links from safari, or, images from a browser, to my Catalina desktop i frequently find that they don't appear! but when i rebooted, there they all were. but before i rebooted they couldn't be found, not viewable on desktop or even in finder.
