I shot a surfing event on my canon 40D about 4 years ago and right after that I sold my camera with the SSD card. I remember importing the photos onto my mac, but at the same time I was messing around with a canon import tool to import in the raw images. I can't remember if I used aperture or a canon app to bring the photos in but anyways I have't been able to locate the photos in years. I'm trying to upgrade my OS but I don't want to erase the drive until I find those photos. Is there a prog that will search my mac and import all of my photos regardless of whether they are raw or not?

Thanks

Have you looked for them in finder?

Yes, but I have 3 HD's full of stuff from 8+ years and also one dead drive. Its not an easy thing to find.

I think the Google Picasa app would do a full system scan for all of your images and makes a library but I'm not sure if it scans for raw.

I use Lightroom, that would load all image files but not sure if it would do a full system scan.

You could do that yourself, scan your system for image files and put them in one location. Then just point your tool (Lightroom in my case) at that location.

I'm sure there are GUI based tools available but personally I'd look at terminal. A combination of cp, grep and find/mdfind/locate would do it.

If they were imported as Canon Raw files, they likely had a suffix of

.cr2

So do a Spotlight search for .cr2 and that should turn up any Canon raw photos that are not in an archive or library.

If they were imported into Aperture, the may be in a file called

Aperture Trial Library.aplibrary

Try doing a Spotlight search for

.aplibrary
