I can't install anything from El capitan

My first attempt to upgrade from yosemite to el capitan, was a failure.
Black screen with apple logo, and the progress bar stuck.
I restored my mbp back from a bootable image.
I installed el capitan from a bootable usb flash disk, created from me with 'diskmakerx'. So, with this way, I passed to el capitan.

Now, I try to upgrade to 10.11.1. Same bad thing.
Black screen with apple logo, and the progress bar stuck.
I have to restore back to 10.11, in order to have a working computer.

Some users here told me to uninstall handsoff firewall. I did it. Completely uninstall. It didn't help.
I also run 'etrecheck' in order to find any problematic or obsolete elements in my system.
Nothing 'red' - dangerous mentioned by the program.

Take a look at 'what's new' in 10.11.1:

'improves installer reliability when upgrading to osx el capitan'.
But the improvement is zero!


So, where is the problem?
Why, as a mac user, I cannot upgrade to anything related to el capitan?
I suspect apple's poor 'installer', but, I want to be sure.

I want to be able to make updates!
Please, help me solve this serious problem.

Progress bar stuck twice? I think you're just being impatient. it takes some time to install an upgrade, and if you don't wait it out you run the risk, and bear the responsibility if it's screwed up. Let the installer finish. Walk away for an hour or two if you feel compelled to interrupt the install.

I've got the same issue here with my mid 2010 MacBook Pro. It isn't a matter of impatience as I've done the update during the night and the progress bar remained stuck until 12 midday. Then I did a hard shut down and pressed cmnd+R at startup in order to reinstall the system. Now the progress bar is full (as opposed to the last time) and it seems to be stuck again! It's been nearly 2hrs.

Any tips mighty people?!

Exactly. It is not a matter of patience.
I did the process many times, I left it many hours, nothing changed.

Yesterday, in my last order to install 10.11.1, I had the idea of going to 'recovery', I did it, I make a 'first aid' for hard disk, and then reboot.
So, something seemed to change for good, because the progress bar proceeded until full, but no, stuck again there!

It is the first time in a decade that I can't install the osx or any updates. And as far as I can see, it is not my fault, but please, lets find out a solution.

I make a disk with only the new 10.11.1 update, with diskmakerx, and then I boot from it?
Is it bootable?

But, as far as I understand, the problem is that there is not the possibility of 'update'.
Only clear install!
What is the difference of make a disk with DiskmakerX with 10.11.1 update? When it will go to upgrade 10.11, it will stuck! Am I thinking wrong?

Except if the different disk, indeed makes any difference.

I don't ignore you.
This verbose mode is not the 'easiest' method for any user. Try to see and write down lists of text in black screen usually with several 'strange' info.
I kept it in mind in case anything else failed.

The installer is an app. Do you have the full install, or just the update? The El Cap install app is 6.18 GB.
Do you have DiskmakerX version 5.0.1?

I have kept 6.18 image of el capitan installer. To do it what? I have now el capitan in my mac.
Diskmaker is 5.0.1.
I thought you told me to make a flash disk especially with 10.11.1 file.

Don't you have the installer app?
The download from the App Store does not result in an image file, but is an application.

Use DiskmakerX.
Select the El Capitan application, then select to use your USB flash drive.
DiskmakerX will erase the flash drive, then create a new installer, which will install 10.11.1
And - use that newly created bootable flash drive to boot your Mac, then follow the directions to reinstall.
Should take 30 minutes to an hour to complete, maybe longer.

Having already el capitan installed in my mac, the only thing I can download, is 10.11.1. Right?
How can I have a complete installer package of el capitan, till 10.11.1, from two separate files, the one of el capitan 10.11(I have kept the .app) and the 10.11.1 ?
And lets say, somehow I do it.

10.11.1, how will it install over existing 10.11?
It stuck anyway.

Guess what: one more time, it stuck.

Something prevents the installation, the finish.

It is not a good solution, to have 'clean install' any time apple releases an update, and then migrate my data.
I did this once, for going to el capitan, because I had no choice.
This cannot be done repeatedly.

I cant' understand how diskmakerx will help me to solve this situation.

Ok, you don't need "two separate files"
All you need is the El Capitan installer, which is what you get from the App Store. Click on the Purchased tab, then OS X El Capitan. Click Download. Your system will tell you it's already installed, but continue anyway.
You get: The El Capitan full install for 10.11.1 - which is what you need. And, that's ALL you need.
It installs on top of whatever you have. It includes everything to fully install 10.11.1
The 10.11 install is not needed in any way, as everything is in the 10.11.1
The update that you downloaded is just that, an update. I can't tell you exactly why it won't finish.
But, the full 10.11.1 installer can take a long time (more than an hour), and can appear to be stuck.
I just reinstalled a couple of days ago, and the install sat on "1 minute remaining" for more than 45 minutes.

There's two ways to use the full installer.
One, is to use it to make a bootable installer, and the DiskmakerX app makes that process simple. There's other methods to create that bootable installer, mostly with the Terminal command line.
Another, is to simply run the installer app while you are already booted to OS X. That's exactly what I would try next.
The App Store download puts the OS S installer app in your Applications folder. If you already have it, and it IS in the Applications folder, restart your Mac. I always do this immediately before a large install begins. That OS X install qualifies as a large install, I think you can agree.
So, restart you Mac. When you are up and running OS X. Do NOT launch anything else, except the OS X installer. Follow the few steps to get it started, then walk away for an hour or so.
The last step that the installer does, is to delete itself, so the installer will no longer be in the Applications folder after a successful completion of the install. (Good reason why I always have a backup of that installer app on an external drive.

Important! If you come back after an hour or two, and all you have is a blank screen, give it another 15 minutes (I'm not joking here) If the screen is still completely blank, press and hold the power button until your Mac shuts off. Should take no more than about 5 seconds.
Press and release the power button.
Wait for boot.
You should be good.

Let me clear something.
I want to be able to do updates.
This means, install over existing system.

How do you tell that a newly created bootable usb flash disk with 10.11.1, will install properly over existing 10.11?
All attempts till now, failed.
I remind you that my first try with el capitan, in order to upgrade over yosemite, failed too.

The only success I had was only through clean install.
But I don't want to do clean install any time apple release an osx update!

So, will booting and installing 10.11.1 from a bootable usb flash disk, succeed? Do you think so?
Am I missing something?

That is assuming problem isn't 1. hardware, 2. bug/corruption in 10.11 installer or 3. incompatible software which will make solving your problem much more challenging.

Have you tested installing 10.11.1 into external drive to rule out bad drive?

I've found out that apparently my one didn't have enough space to install the new system that's why it's not starting up. I bought a new hard drive, I'm just about to stick it into the laptop and do a clean install then I'll use the old one as an external drive. Now figuring out a way of making that bootable usb. Any tips welcome. Do I need to use the DiskMaker X for that? Or can I just download the new system and copy it onto the usb? (that'll be on a PC though ). Not sure, never done that before.

Can install the update, not to my machine, but to external hard drive? It's the first time I hear it, and I don't know how it is done.
Maybe I will wait for 10.11.2. But, will it be installed? Or I will remain with the same problem, a 10.11.2 stuck during installation? 10.11, and 10.11.1, we are talking about 2 editions, did not solved the problem.
Will it be fixed in 3 update, or I will remain in 10.11 forever?
(unless I do tedious procedures like 'clean install-then migration').

If I could knew that 10.11.2 would be installed properly, I would wait for it without doing anything else for now.
But I fear that this problem will remain.
