, but can easily airdrop from my macbook to iphone5s. l thought perhaps it might be because my personal hotspot is not turned off, "everyone" is not selected, WIFI and bluetooth are off. but they are all selected. so what is the problem?

Check your firewall settings. Block incoming connections will block Airdrop.

thanks for suggestion, but how do l check the firewall settings on my iphone 5s? can easily transfer from my macbook to iphone 5s via airdrop, and macbook firewall settings are 'off'

Your iPhone does not have a firewall. If the firewall on your mac is turned off, it must be something else.
