I can't seem to find the right way to handle the new Magic Mouse?

Maybe I'm use to a more contour fitting mouse but I can't seem to get a good feel for the mouse. It seems to hurt the back of my hand.

Are there some advice for using this damn thing?

Excellent advice :rolleyes:. The OP has the mouse now and wishes tips from users with experience how to most ergonomically use the thing. My concerns over possible hand strain (swiping two fingers while ? having to stabilize the mouse with outer fingers???) has made me wait on purchasing it. I can't wait to see feedback from people who have used this thing for awhile.
 
There's some user video review on Macrumors already. Check them out. Maybe it's your technique? I'm starting to realize that any product a company puts out, despite it's greatness, isn't going to appeal to everyone uniformly. Most people will love this new mouse. Others, like you, won't, I guess. Good luck figuring it out. I'll bet in time, you'll love it. Going to get mine VERY soon.
 
I just keep my wrist on my desk and my fingers slightly raised and it feels comfy to me.

But i do have small hands.

So far i love this mouse, the scrolling with this mouse is amazing.
 
I hold the mouse with the tips of my fingers. The mousepad has something to rest your wrist on so maybe that makes it easier. Anyway, even though it's only a mighty mouse I can very easily swipe two fingers over it etc, so just try holding it with the the ends of your fingers.

I had a similar problem when I first switched to the logitech vx nano. The back of my hand hurt, mainly because the design of it is quite different than the mighty mouse it replaced. After a day or two though I got used to it and now I don't feel anything. I think it was just because with MM was fatter as such so I used to rest much more of my hand on it during use
 
Handling mice is very subjective. The best advice I can give you is find out the most comfortable position (takes a few days to get used to) and if you still dont like it, choose another mouse...
 
got the magic mouse of a mate who bought a new imac , he was so upset about using this mouse that he told me he would swap it if i give him one of my pro mice , and i agreed without thinking
i find it quiet alright for occasional use ,but i think its more of a "see what i got" mouse , its simply to flat ,you simply cant use it like pro mouse or mighty mouse , i hold it with thump and ring finger at the rear end of the mouse and hold the middle and pointing finger up in the air , then i can use it without doing things i did not want to do like scrolling somewhere or klick inappropriate:D
but i wish i would be again 10 years old , as back then i had smaller hands :D

its a designer mouse and not a ergonomic one , so use it for what its build for ...for display ,it looks good on a nice design mousepad like this one i`ve got

The argument still rages on about the Mighty Mouse, too small, trackball picks up dirt too readily etc. I like it for the most part - but have destroyed the functionality of one trackball trying to clean with the microfibre/alcohol routine and had to disassemble another to get its trackball back into good shape - bit of a pita. For these reasons alone I'm tempted by this new one.


Seems like Apple doesn't shy away from controversy on their mice.
 
I actually rather like the Magic Mouse.

I am also an owner of a Logitech G5, Logitech v470, and Bluetooth Mighty Mouse. I think I'm most comfortable with my G5 but the Magic is very fun to use.

Only complaint, same with Mighty Mouse, is that you can't hold down the right click and then use the left click. It's one mouse button at a time. Oh well.
 
ok thats it i have to jump in for apple ..since the imac g3/ imac g4 the magic mouse is the most radical design apple has build:D
(sorry different screen sizes dont count for me as radical design )
and it is beautiful when it sits on my mousepad ..anybody knows where to get a silver and white coloured cheese to put in a corner of the mousepad :confused:
 
The new Magic Mouse sits very low. This makes it a little difficult for people to get a grip of it. Just for comparison's sake, look at Microsoft's Arc mouse. I mean the whole purpose of the mouse is that bulging arc that allows you to NATURALLY grip the mouse. I believe that for the sake of design, Apple did not give too much thought to the way it would actually feel in a person's hand. I mean sure it looks damn sexy and multitouch wow lol but I would much rather have a $9 logitech mouse that I would be comfortable with than one that would lead to wrist and hand problems. Just my $0.04/2

We'll see how it handles though...

It looks awesome and isn't bad to handle, but when I spend a few hours on it tonight playing around I'll see if my hand is cramped up by the end. I'll have my G5 handy just in case.
 
pcworld sold me the mousepad so i asume they have more stuff ..didnt look for other allsop products

and you possibly have to ask them as last time i was in my local pc world they didn`t have any so i went to another pcworld to buy one ..two macs two mousepads

but you can order it online on their website too
 
I must be strange. I HATE "ERGONOMIC MICE"

they are horrible.
I lay my hand on the table...it doesn't lay Flat or Super Curved. It has a tiny lifted arch...just like teh Mighty/Magic Mouse looks.

I almost point with my finger on the mouse.
 
make sure ur mouse is placed on proper elevation. most of the time i hear complaints about hurting hands/wrists is because the mouse is placed too low.

if that ain't the problem, i think you have incorrect grip. you can show us a pic of your sexy hand grip i will correct you
