I'm trading in my MBP 15" late 2013 with Catalina and I'm following the steps to prepare it, and I cannot for the life of me get iCloud to sign me out.

I followed the instructions, going to System Preferences, Apple ID, Overview, but when I click "Sign Out" the little gray wheel starts spinning as if it's working and then never ends. I've tried rebooting, uninstalling Sophos, turning off Screen Time (another place recommended that) and still no luck. I have to return my friend's power cable in a couple hours (my power cable died from this Macbook) so I really only have another couple hours to finish this and wipe the macbook so I can trade it in and I'm stuck in this ridiculous manner. Anyone have any idea of a fix for this?

Any chance it would be ok for me to just tell the mac to erase all data and go to factory settings? Would that log me out successfully?

You can erase the device and then follow theses instructions. Make sure you read over the instructions before proceeding.

Thank you. I'll reboot and try Sign Out a couple more times, maybe even re-install the OS, and if still no luck I'll do this.

Hi! If you don't really care about the data inside the account, try creating a new user (make sure it has admin rights), log into that account and remove the original one (don't forget to choose the options to remove user data):

This way might be faster than resetting the mac
