I can't tell if I bricked my ATV

This is an embarrassing first post

I tried to jailbreak my ATV2 on a 10.4 macbook, fiddled around to get into DFU mode, and my ancient iTunes would only recognize it as an iphone, so I left it alone until this week when I bought a 10.6 imac.

Now I can't get anything to detect the ATV, not even as plugged in. I've fiddled with plugging/unplugging power/no power, usb/no usb, everything. But iTunes won't detect it, disk utility won't detect it, PwnageTool, SeasonPass, etc..

iTunes detected it for a second a few minutes ago, but I can't get it back!


Any advice?

It is possible something went wrong but I doubt it, chances are is something else.

Try another computer if all possible.

try another USB cable...and DO NOT plug the power. (I repeat DO NOT plug the power cord).

DFU in some devices is really hard to get, just keep trying you should be able to get it eventually.

if iTunes detects the ATV, and I have a custom restore file, am I all set?

Also, if I've set it into DFU mode once before, does it leave DFU mode once it's unplugged completely?

Yes, and

I am not 100% sure but I believe once the device is on DFU you need to restore. it won;t get out of that mode. (i could be wrong never really tried it)

I just plugged it into a different computer and it heads straight to iTunes

I'll just toss the custom ipsw onto a usb and restore it from there!



Update: D'oh! Device not eligible for requested build! And I can't run SeasonPass 4.3 or 4 on the other mac, it's a 10.5.8. How do I go about finding the right firmware?

So basically my ATV loads into itunes only on my 10.5.8 machine, and I can't find the right jailbreaker/ios combo...

to used older version of the firmware you need Tiny umbrella and your SHSHs saved. if you don't have your SHSHSs them you need to most current version of te firmware, 4.4.4 may be still be sign by apple
