I charged my 220v Iphone on an 110v outlet..

I accidently charged my Iphone 2g (220V) on an 110v power socket. The phone charged perfectly for me but post that, I have not been able to charge the phone again on my normal 220v power outlet. I also cannot get the Itunes software to recognize my phone. I have tried the following to no avail
1) completely discharged my phone and tried recharging
2) plugging it with my Ipod charger
3) Complete reboot of my Iphone

Is there any way to rectify this without having to go through an expensive job requiring possible battery change? Or do you think my phone has now gone kaput?

Are you sure you're describing the problem right? There's no such thing as a 220v phone, it is the charging unit that might be voltage specific. My Apple mains charger for my UK phone will accept the range 100v - 240v, so if that's what you are also using then the mains voltage will not have been the problem.

Have you tried charging it using the USB cable since it happened?

ah interesting.

i never did know the exact reason why the recall was necessary.

luckily here in Australia, we had different adapters, that didn't require an exchange!
 
I have used the standard Apple charger given with the iphone kit. So maybe the problem is something else.
I was travelling and the train had a standard 110v outlet. My problem began the following day after this, so I kinda assumed that the prior charging must be the cause. I have also tried charging through my PC using the USB cable, but the problem persists. Both times, i do not get the Iphone charging symbol indicating that the phone is getting charged.
 
That's weird... I've used my original power adapter on 110V and 220V with no problems...

The only thing that comes to mind is that when you were charging the phone on the train some kind of power surge happened and it damaged the phone internally...
 
Have you tried to use another usb-to-iphone-cable? Maybe it got damaged on your travels.
And sometimes those train-powersockets have large voltage spikes, unless they are specificly for notebooks. But those spikes are usually very well surpressed by those modern power supplys. But I would not recommend to use high-tech equipment on those power sockets. Here in germany, this sockets are often found in the train-restrooms and marked with an electrical razor....don't ever connect anything else than razors to this kind of sockets.
 
Let me try to change the USB cable. Fingers crossed!!

What are my options if the phone has got screwed due to a voltage spike? Has the phone gone kaput or can I still use it by changing the battery or something?
 
Has to be a spike.....

I have used the same charger with both 110 and 220V power sockets and it charged without problems.

Meaning you'll need to get the battery changed or in worst case scenario.. the Logic Board fried!

All this in case changing the connector cable doesnt work!
 
When using a charger on a plane or train you can experience power surges when the train/plane itself uses more or less power. Especially with planes (talking from experience) they reduce power to the sockets when coming in to land to reduce the amount of power everything else is using and use it all for the engines (same for take off). This can obviously cause problems like it did with one of my laptops where the charge wasn't enough and it actually shorted the mainboard causing the laptop to be scrap.

Of coure there is nothing you can do as you are asked to unplug anything during these times but I have never used anything like this on a train but i would imagine it is a similar scenario being either a surge or a drain.

If its in warranty just send it back to apple or something. They'll replace anything these days lol
