Hi

My wife still owns iPhone 6s plus. And has the latest software update.
According to icloud, she has used 1.6gb of 5gb free storage.

However, when selecting "back up now", she receives the same message: insufficient storage on I cloud.

Could someone please direct me to resolving this issue.

Thank you.

Smallest capacity on an iPhone 6s Plus is 16GB, up to 128GB maximum.
Maybe your iPhone needs more than 3.4GB for a back up.
If so, your solution will be to purchase more iCloud storage space.

I was actually referring to I cloud storage and not phone storage. Maybe I have misunderstood your reply.

Thanks

As @DeltaMac suggested, it’s likely that the storage space required for the backup is not enough. My iPhones backup takes up about 3.5gb of space.

If there is not enough space for the backup the iPhone won’t do a partial backup with the space that’s available.

I agree with others here that you will likely need to upgrade the iCloud plan. The next tier is 50GB for $.99/month. It's a good deal because you also get the features of iCloud+, which I won't go into here.

To ensure this 1.6GB used of the free 5GB iCloud storage is accurate, it helps to know exactly where you're viewing that info.

On her phone, go to Settings > her Apple ID account (at the top) > iCloud > and view the storage graph used by not only the backup but anything else that stores data and documents in iCloud. What does that show?

Next tap on Manage Storage (just below the graph) to view the details about iCloud storage. You'll see Backups, Photos, iCloud Drive, Messages, etc. Any surprises there?

Is her iCloud account being shared with other devices, such as an iPad or Mac?

Hi

It just shows, documents and data 1.6gb.

And below that it just shows her name and this phone 1.6gb

Under I cloud . Manage storage it shows:
1. Backups 1.6gb
2. Shortcuts 22.2kb
3. 1cloud drive 19.4kb
4. I.movie 0.1kb

Thank you

What @DeltaMac was suggesting is that maybe your wife's next backup needs more space than the theorectical 3.4GB remaining. The way to check is Settings > her account > iCloud > Manage Storage > Backups > tap on her phone name in the lower part and wait for Next Backup Size to load.

There's also this Macrumors story that might shed some light on the issue.
