So I ran cinebench r23 multicore test at the same time as I ran this in safari: http://www.kevs3d.co.uk/dev/shaders/lightbox.html (with rotate world activated) in full screen.

This is the first time I've had the fan spin up (still couldn't hear the fan). The fan reach a speed of 2100 RPM during this.

Max cpu core temp was 96°C max GPU temp was 72°C.

Why did I do this?

I wanted to see if I could get the fan to leave the 1700 RPM it always sits at, and I succeeded.

Got a Cinebench score of 7356 witch is not bad considering I ran Safari, OneDrive, Teams, Outlook, Mail, excel and listening to music (with the music app) at the same time as cinebench was running.

Love this machine.

Now I need to get back to doing actual work :p

Yesterday I set up Windows 10 Arm, got Visual Studio 2019 working with our x64 app and everything. The fan barely came on a few times. All the other MBPs I've used were screaming max fans the entire time. The case was barely warm to the touch - Impressive.

People love to spend their time harping on things and complaining. I'd rather spend my time enjoying something. I really enjoy my M1 MBP.

For the most part my M1 iMac (16GB) stays pretty cool. I have noticed in Lightroom it may jump up to 93°C for a few seconds. But when I try Xplane 11 the temps will run at around 100°C for about 2 minutes then go down then back up again. I don't think this could be good for the long term health of the computer. I have set up a custom fan curve for the computer so when it hits the high temps the fans kick in at 100%, but still I don't think this computer is suited for this flight Sim.

It doesn't matter. Really, folks should stop worrying about damaging their computers that way. Temperatures of up to 100C are within the spec. Just enjoy your machine.

The only reason Apple throttles the M1 Macbooks, and iPhones for that matter, is because of the battery. The hotter the battery the faster it will degrade.

I Recon battery issues will crop up much much later in a macbook's life with these cooler running/power efficient laptops.
