Actually...the wifey did it for me. She went out and purchased me the 24in. 2.8 iMac. I know I might get some flack from this forum saying, "you paid too much for outdated hardware, or why did I purchase the iMac when something new is around the corner." You know what...technology is always changing and unfortunately I don't have the funds to purchase a new computer every year when iMac's change. I'm happy with the purchase....if I can manage on my 6 yr old Sony Vaio 10gb hard drive pentium 4, then this will last me awhile. i'm just happy that I got out of my PC

My question to you guys is this...I don't do any video editing, if I do, it will probably just me my home videos of the family, but that's it for me. The only thing that I might want to do is maybe return my iMac for the 3.06 iMac. Will it be worthless for me to do that? Will I even notice a major difference in processor speed and graphics? Or, should I just save my money and buy the 1TB time capsule?

Save your money, you won't notice the difference especially if you're coming from a 6 year old computer!

Don't get the time capsule either. There are third party external drives that offer the exact same functionality (wireless etc) for much less money.

Sounds to me like you don't even need the 3.06Ghz.
Hell, 2.66GHz would be fine, just get a bigger drive or an external hard drive.
Coming from a pentium for, this computer will blow it away.

good for you :) I wish I had the balls to make that move. I want iLife 09 and my fiancé would kill me if my mac was about to upgrade. 2.8 should be more than enough for you

2.8 is fine. GPUs is where it's at. Did you get the Nvidia or ATI graphics card?

I just got the ATI at the apple store so I couldn't upgrade anything there...the apple rep said I would not notice a difference unless I do heavy editing which I'm not...just home video for the family

They were right. I've got the ATI in that same machine and it's fine. Once Snow Leopard comes out your computer will be even faster.

so do the stores have the 3.06 version for sale?

I'm stopping tomorrow and can't decide between the 2.8 and the 3.06 -- the thing that is making me lean towards the 3.06 is the better graphics chip...

I was waiting for MacWorld for an updated iMac too - but Phil let "me" down so I'll buy as well

if they come out in two weeks worse case I can return it ;-)
