I did just about the stupidest thing I've ever done. I posted a question about a problem I was having with the App Store app on my iPhone 3GS on the official "Apple Discussion" board and mentioned that my iPhone was "hacked". There were a few people who responded with the same problem but long story short, the post was deleted and Apple (Apple Discussion Board Mod) sent me an email saying that my offending post was deleted and the reason why.

Now, before too many call me a dumb a$$, I've been working a lot of hours lately, tired and I just wasn't thinking. I know, poor excuse, but it's all I've got. I'm so used to posting here where everyone is so friendly and helpful. I've learned more here than anywhere else and I'm very appreciative of that. I try to give back when ever I can and not just take.

You may be asking, then why did you go to the "Official Apple Discussion Board"? Because I thought since it was an "Official App", that maybe somebody in the Apple Discussion Board might have an answer (I did ask here also).

So, should I worry about being hunted down by Apple now that they know?

I certainly don't have anything to hide as I "buy" all my apps legit and only jailbroke to have the freedom to go "outside the box" to see what the iPhone can really do. The only "non-official apps" I have installed on my iPhone are LockInfo (which I paid for), SBSettings, Backgrounder and Kirikae.

It's been a long hard week, I certainly didn't want anymore added stress...

Unless you gave out your serial number and they flagged it, you shouldn't have any problem as far as the warranty goes. And I highly doubt that Apple is going to waste the effort in hunting you down if you didn't give out the serial number to them.

The email that they used is my "Apple ID" used for my iTunes account, so I guess they have it if they want it (my serial number does show in iTunes).

I was more worried about them "shutting down" my iPhone and my apps. Although, I do have the "Apple Kill Switch" turned off in SBSetttings.

I guess they have me if they want me...

they are not going to hunt you down for that. don't worry.
I have had replaced jail broken iPhones by Apple 3 times due to something loose inside the phone. they never bothered about it.

only if that is the reason your phone breaks.

Just because your serial number shows in iTunes, doesn't mean it's sent on to Apple. I've hooked up my friends' ipods/iphones to my computer to charge them, and their serial numbers show in iTunes while they are charging. Apple's database would get totally messed up if they try to keep track of that!

Well, try mentioning "cracked apps" here and see what happens.

It's just that each forum has their own "culture." Cross that line and you are quickly made to feel unwelcome. I'm sure Apple's forum isn't that different from any other online forum in that regard.

I'm not sure what you expected. You violated their forum's rules and were met, it seems to me, with a pretty mild response similar to what you'd get at any forum, including this one. The difference is in what topics of discussion are allowed, not necessarily in how nice people are. Jailbreak discussion is allowed here, sure, but discussions of or links to pirated software are not. Make a post about Installous here and the same thing will happen: people will tell you your post isn't allowed and moderators will delete it.

OMG.. you admitted to jailbreaking in Apple forum AND posted your AppleID?? You are a walking dead man.. But there may still be a small window of opportunity if you act fast. Here's what you do:

(1) Immediately duck tape all your windows and doors. If you have a shotgun or any other firearms - make sure they are loaded and ready to be used.

(2) Stay away from the windows, day and night. Apple's snipers have probably already taken their positions in the building across the street. Don't give them a clear shot. Sleep under your bed or in the bathtub.

(3) Start making arrangements to change your identity and leave the country. If you have someone you can trust - have them withdraw all your money in cash. Buy a one-way ticket to South America. I recommend Argentina or Chile, but Central American countries like Honduras and Guatemala might be safe intermediate stops.

(4) Once you have crossed the border - avoid using the Internet at all times. Do not ever use your real name (and especially Apple ID) again. Avoid Apple stores, Best Buys and Walmarts.

You cannot return to the United States for at least 15 years. By then, Google will have taken over Apple and the world as a whole. Only then life may become safe for you ever again.

Be realistic.. Why would apple shut down your phone? You've paid for it, it's yours.. Believe me, they wouldn't risk such a thing, it would just stir up a ******** of bad publicity... Just imagine the headlines.

If they wanted they could probably screw up all jailbroken iPhones out there but they won't because there are literally millions of jailbroken iPhones worldwide...As mentioned the shutdown of millions of phones would create mass hysteria in the media which would hurt the iPhone sales.

If you're that worried go create a new iTunes account and restore your phone. There isn't much else you can do.

But I highly doubt a major corporation like Apple would go about harrasing a single customer for themeing an iphone and risk him/her not buying the next 500 dollar iphone 4G. Steve Jobs has already mentioned that the Kill Switch is only in case of emergency if there's a trojan/virus whatever packed with one of the AppStore apps that they've missed during the approval process And that they hope never to use it.. So I highly doubt that they're going to use it on your iPhone just for jailbreaking.

Not to mention that shutting down millions of JB phones would cost the official iPhone carriers (like AT&T and others) billions of dollars as not every JB iPhone is unlocked. Those carriers would never stand for that.

when amazon removed a non legal version of a book (orwells 1984) remotely from the kindle of their users the outcry was huge and amazon lost lots of customers and had to apologize. apple won't go after a JB iphone user.
