Other I did last minute rendering of iPhone 17Pro. I think the new design is great

Maybe a little bit late but this is what I think the new iPhone 17 Pro will looks like. I worked on this for a few days but didn't have time to finish it until now. Integrating antenna into the aluminum frame continuing around camera bump. With frosted glass or composite back panel for MagSafe. I am very curious how close it is to the actual phone. Time will tell (2hours)

The iconic design died with iPhone X. It's just plain old practicality now which we have to accept if we want phones bloated with all the latest componentry available each year.

Wouldn't call it ugly, but it's not something that's in any way a nice design. The materials and finish distract the eye from what's otherwise quite a clunky looking device. Think it would appeal well to teenagers who watch 80's anime - it was filled with robotics that had triple lens headsets etc.

Lol, yeah I can agree with you in that part that the X is the best design. Ultimately even more than iPhone 4 which is my favorite. I just think the curved body is far better ergonomics. I have some crazy concepts that I never finished with that design direction. I still think they need to show up with something more during keynote. What do you think overall of the rendering? I like that silver, very classy, I just can't get past that rectangle on the back that looks like an imprint of a mag safe credit card holder, a look I've never liked. I'm fine with the camera bump, in fact it's growing on me, I'm hoping it's less wobbly than the current pro.

Thanks for the kind words. I was just rushing to finish those renders today. I planned to have it done a weeks ago but was lazy ass...Yeah I think silver/white is so Apple. I love old products from 2004-2007 the iPods and Macs. I never owned one in time unfortunately. I tried to make that look as realistic as possible not just rendering but the dimensions and antenna. I think its pretty close of what we are gonna get unless Apple decide to surprise us. Personally I like the aluminum bump it reminds me of the iPad Pro and you are right I think it will be less wobble.

I like your renders but I dont like the new design. Actually thats not completely true, I like the new camera bump, but I really dont like the rectangle of glass in an aluminium frame. I also dont like their 'clear' case with a white rectangle.

IMO this is the least Apple like design in years.

Yeah that clear case looks trash. I think you are right. Too many unnecessary elements.

The design may be ugly it really depends how it will look in real life. I just wish I finish the Air model because that was pretty close also. Whats the biggest turn off for you about the design? The rear design? The material choice? Whats your current phone and what would you like to see in the future iPhone?

I was actually planning that but I get lost in the process and it didn’t make it to the final version. Same with polished camera rings on my version but overall I am super happy. Especially with antenna around camera bump. Even small bevels and fillets are 100%. Thanks for your comment. Which one do you prefer from the line up?

Hard to say. The 17 looks great, peak version of this generation of iPhones. I never liked the triple caveat too much, and now the 17 is essentially last years Pro, thin bezels and all, with only a dual system.
The orange 17 Pro is catching my eyes too though.
If I had the loose cash I would get it instantly honestly and see if the new cameras are that much better than my 15 Pro.
Interesting choice that there is no black or grey this year, since like the iPhone 3GS? I think.
The Air is an interesting technical feat, but I don’t like the bump or the camera from what I’ve seen.

Sorry for late reply. Yeah that orange color is pretty wild. Very vivid definitely not typical Apple. I am disappointed that they are as heavy as 14Pro which is stainless steel and more glass. But I get it they pack more and bigger battery into it.
For me the Air is pretty interesting I don’t know why but I like it the most even when it doesn’t make sense if you think about value. But I really dig the polished titanium frame and that huge screen in that thin body looks so unreal. I am surprised they actually milled inside that camera bump for components. That’s some crazy engineering. Especially coming from 15Pro.
But basic 17 is definitely winner in terms of value. Everything but more for the same price. Absolutely no brainer.

Thank you very much I am happy you like it. I didn’t actually used blender but Fusion360 and rendered in Keyshot. Although I do know how to use Blender even just basic stuff I don’t like the poly modeling. I have never liked it in Maya too. For me it’s just I never get topology right.
My workflow is always changing or tweaking little details so it’s crucial for me to get back in steps and redone some stuff. It gives me more creative freedom to just focus on design than having to deal with edge flow or ngons.
Yeah so for now I am sticking with these I hope there was alternative to it similar as Blender but just for CAD.
I don’t know if you are doing 3D/rendering as well but my biggest free tip I can give you is that the right angle and lightning is key. That iPhone is pretty basic shape but it’s actually hard to create some depth in render because it’s basically flat surface. So you need to make more pins and highlight edges and contours to make it pop. To introduce some depth into final image.

Yeah the camera bump is still huge but not as bad as the Air's lmao and the "Plateau" design really makes it less hideous looking. It looks more "boxy", even, and industrial. The two tone design reminds me of the iPhone 5. I always wanted an iPhone 5 because of how good it looked.

And guess what? You can even render in AutoCAD too! The rendering and modeling of this iPhone 17 Pro are spot on!

What lighting did you use for the render, and did you set the physical materials of the iPhone mockup to aluminium and glass? Did you tweak the materials to give it that matte finish and match the RGBs to ’s colors and textures?

You mostly used extrude, fillets, and rounds to create the shape, right? (PS, I have a certification from Autodesk for Fusion, and I learned it in high school!)

I like the design too. It reminds me of the Apple products around 2007. Silver aluminum and white plastic or glass. I like the more beveled frame. I still think that titanium semi polished or polished finish of stainless steel on iPhone looks more premium like jewelry or some solid piece of hardware.
I just hope they will reinvent smartphone industry one more time.

Last but not least the angles. Apple got that almost orthographic shots on most product pictures. So you need to play with focal length. I set it as high as 160 on some shots. On the other shots it’s around 50-100.

I think in general, the iPhone pros are starting to look more like Work horses than any kind of elegant design. I don’t necessarily mind, but I wouldn’t say they’re getting more pretty.

I used a MakerBot Replicator+ printer at my school’s engineering lab that I manage with my engineering faculty mentor and a few others for my engineering club I co-founded. Unlike what my previous school had we don’t have a printer that supports multiple filaments nor different colours like MakerBot method.

I printed it in an array of 9 pins which took only a few hours overnight to complete. I used black PLA filament.

Colouring it I used a combination of acrylic paints that match ’s official colours of the pin and the gold was used with gold nail polish. Then I used clear coat to make the pins last longer and achieve the enamel look better.

I kept two of the pins and gave away the rest for an end of the year mini event for my club as a raffle for the guest speaker panellist to welcome a new EE faculty member from Panasonic to the club, and a former Apple employee that I made friends with in an impromptu interview. He wears a titanium Apple Watch Series 7 edition 45mm.

PS: the pins I wear them whenever I go to the Apple Store and iPhone release days; I put them on my hat. I got compliments on them from the Apple Store specialists and geniuses, they could not even tell it was the real thing!
