i didn't update my 3gs to 3.1, now how do i jailbreak safely? noob needs advice

how do i safely jailbreak my 3gs, i haven't updated itunes or my iphone. just got this phone within the last month and i have been just trying to wait it out a bit. any advice is very welcome, thanks.

First, make sure you're not running 3.1 on your iPhone. You need to be running either 3.0 or 3.0.1.

You'll need to have the 3.0 ipsw to jailbreak, even if you're running 3.0.1. Refer to this link if you don't already have it:

After you have the 3.0 ipsw, download and run redsn0w, remembering to choose the 3.0 ipsw for patching purposes:

well now its even safer/easier to JB your iphone. just search google there are thousands of vids explaining how.

I jailbroke my iphone 3gs 3.0 with redsn0w and im more than happy with it. Im practically doing everything (including gaming) i did on my desktop on it.

just yesterday i hacked into a neighborhoods wi-fi and set their startpage to *******. aaaaah good times...

anyways. go get the resn0w app then go get the backup thingy then go apes**t.

remember: google is your friend.

Jail Break iPhone 3G from fresh restore of 3.0.1?

Does anyone know if you can restore the same firmware you are running on a Jail broken, unlocked iPhone 3G - in my case my iPhone 3G is on 3.0.1 - as I need to re jailbreak the fresh restore to get Cydia working again.

Or will iTunes force something in the background to fubar my currently functioning JB and UL iPhone when I attempt to manually select a firmware to restore...?

I have NOT upgraded to 3.1 - just need to JB a fresh restore - I tried just JBing again and it does not fix the issue (and I had not installed iFile or openSSH).

(This should be the first packages that anyone installs as this would have allowed me to access the phone to clean up the corrupt files that I am reading about and seeing on uTube that are the culprit causing Cydia to not load.)

I need the iPhone to be unlocked. I am running Snow Leopard and iTunes 8.2.1. (Should I reinstall 10.5 OS X?)
