After having had Messages in iCloud enabled since it was first made possible, I finally decided to switch it off today to save some space. However it still says Messages take up 16 GB of my iCloud storage. How come?

I'm guessing because you haven't actually deleted anything. All you have done is disabled the syncing of messages between your phone and icloud. Can you login to icloud via a browser and access messages, delete them there?

You’re absolutely right, thank you. I needed to disable and then delete

I've left it enabled and deleted a ton of messages but it didn't reduce the iCloud storage size.
