so I called to cancel my cable. The first time I called the person on the other end told me it was cancelled and when I asked for a confirmation # she gave me a 3 digit #. I called the very next day to confirm. It had not been cancelled and the 3 digit # she had provided was her employee # not a confirmation #. Has anyone else experienced this "you think you've cancelled but it didn't happen"? I'm hoping that this isn't a practice at comcast to keep customers signed up and paying.

The person on the second day actually gave me a real confirmation # and told me that someone would not be out until the following Tues to come make the appropriate changes outside of my house (typical comcast).

At any rate. I no longer have comcast cable just comcast internet. The amount of money I was paying $90/month for extended basic with HD. I have netflix and an apple tv. The only thing I have not been able to find are food network shows online or in iTunes any suggestions?

When we cut the DirecTV satellite cable two years ago, they kept calling to get us back. After several "thanks, but no thanks" and the call continued, I emailed the president of the company (email address was in their Annual Report) and told him I didn't want to be called again and explained how DirecTV's service and quality of video had gone downhill in the 10 or so years we had it. I never rec'd a reply, but the phone calls stop. My mistake? I failed also state that we didn't want any mailings, either...

cable

go to radio shack and get a splitter if you have cable internet you can put a splitter on and get cable tv since you are paying for internet the tv connection will not show up in an audit. the cable companies know that you can get free tv if you pay for internet that is why they try and try to get you to sign up for tv service.

That will do nothing for you except lower signal levels to and from your modem. Cable companies use filters to take out the spectrum used by their video services for customers only ordering internet service. It may be the case that someone got lazy and never "trapped" out video service at your particular residence, but I can assure you this is not the norm.

Ignoring the moral standpoint of taking something you're not entitled to, receiving cable TV without paying for it is illegal and can land you in jail with a criminal record. Is that really worth saving a few dollars for?

Channels/Shows I watch on a regular basis

Sci-fi / Eureka, BSG
NBC / Heros
Food Network
History Channel
Discovery Channel

I appreciate the "options" on getting cable. I really just don't care for it since every time I try to watch/record the signal drops/pixelates. They've sent people out (who come late) and I just got tired of it. As you can see I really don't watch much.

Has anyone tried this software on Apple's site called "Live Station"
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/internet_utilities/livestation.html

Looks interesting.

I've tried Joost and it's not coming a lot like I had hoped.

Plus getting rid of cable helps removes the mindless couch-surfing.

Cable companies have filters that block out the video service. ALSO stuff like that causes problems because people don't do stuff right, problems back feed into the cable plant, and causes issues for other people in the area who are HONEST paying customers. Because most cable companies have phone service now, I have seen fines over $30,000 for idiots doing this.
I have to pay for it, so should everyone else who wants it.
