Hi friends,
As you know (or not..) I bought a new 27 iMac i3 computer a month ago.
Since than I replaced 2 computers and it's seems the 3rd one also has a problem (and guess what is the problem? yes, you right, blue top & yellow bottom screen with Pack-man hard drive).
After I got my first iMac and notice the problems I started to search about that on the net and I am really amazed to read that some of you are really happy to get computer with just one problem.
I read a post of some member and he wrote "the only problem that I have is a bit of yellow on the bottom and I'm really happy, my computer is perfect and I can live with that".
other member wrote "I will not change my computer again because there is a big chance that I will get worse one"

I read more and more comments like this and ask myself what is going on here?!
As I know now one gave my this computer because of my pretty face... I BOUGHT this computer with money and a lot of money. I have old Samsung display for some years and I used it with my old PC and it was perfect, no yellow / blue or light dripping. So I ask myself why to buy a computer and hope that the only problem that I'll have with it is yellow.

I really love Apple products but I spent 2500$ on this computer and I want it perfect. but since Apple using cheap components we get a bad machine for a lot of money. I just looked up which PC computer I could get with 2500$ and started to laugh... better screen, better CPU, better GPU and so on BUT I bought Apple iMac, and I bought because of Windows Vista (after format my PC every 3 month I realized that Snow Leopard will do the job for me).

I know that I getting inferior computer but I also know that I will have a better system. what I DON'T know is that I will suffer from stupid problems.

The point in my post is that I really think that we need to do something, we pay a lot of money on that computers and we need to get the value from it.

What you think we can do?
 
Perhaps I'm lucky because our 1st delivered iMac was perfect. Now yellow, no blue, no ping, no bang, no scratches, no loud fans, no loud internal HD. I simply plugged it in, gave it my startup details and it ran. And it's been running "as expected" ever since. Perhaps I'm just lucky... It is exactly as advertised. Wish more of its fonts / menus have adjustable font sizing and wish its LCD/LED didn't give an "over blasting" white... And, wish it had a matte screen - to stop some of its glare. But that's a topic for a different post. Hardware wise, "its a keeper" the 1st time....

you might have a point here , but the problem started a long time ago
and it has something to do with the Apple customer mentality , the customers did look over the small problems away since apple existed , and as far as i know there had been not a single computer Apple had produced in the last 10 years that had not been with a flaw or two of some sort and Apple got away with it
and there are still a lot of customers who think the new iMac is beyond my expectations ...(what does that mean? it could have been worse ?)
so even with the slight flaws they want one , and that was already in PPC times the case think about the iMac g5 , bad cap infested , overheating because of a not so good ventilating system , apple changed that a bit with resorting fans inside during the iMac G5 line , but didn't solve the problem the case just did not have enough openings for cool air to come in and hot air to come out , but thats the price you have to pay for a sleek design , if you look in pc world for all in ones they all have quiet big openings at the back like swiss cheese , here a hole there a slot and only to cool down equivalent hardware
but on the other side we have to thank apple for this function follows design approach , without it there had been no iMac G4 , G5 , intel possible , and you dont buy a iMac because you want a high quality product , you buy it because they offer a great design (ok i dont like the color choice of the new ones ) and one of the best operating systems with osx snow leopard (ok i still think tiger was better) , but nevertheless that is the reason to buy a Mac , and if that comes with some flaws then be it , we still love our Mac's do we?

I am the same way, I have had no probs with my iMac since I got it, no signs of yellow tint or anything, there is some good ones out there.
 
You can't do anything, since Apple is replacing machines as they need to be.

Nothing is being violated... consumers are just being "inconvenienced" with the replacement process.

As a result, inconvenience isn't grounds for any sort of action.
 
I really hate reading these stories (as in hate that someone is going through it ) but I've bought 4 27iMacs since Feb. (2 for home 2 for work) and have been lucky each time. No tinting, no "extra" noises no problems out of any of the computers.
 
I was in the same boat as you.. Feel sorry for you!

I have had 2 iMacs i7 with the backlight bleeding issue.. Couldn't accept that so now I had my money back and waiting for another iMac to come. Maybe that computer has the same problem? Nobody knows.

It's pretty sad because as you say, we pay a lot of money for this computers and we expect it to be perfect.

Now I'm on my 17" MacBook Pro 2008 and I so want a 27" iMac.. But I'll wait and see if the the new compter that comes out has this issue.
 
its such a shame that its kinda get a refund or live with it....

this shouldn't be the case as all of the iMacs should be flawless but sadly there not it took me 6 to get a good one..... least i got a free i7 upgrade for my trouble

Not true, first of all they only send 3 computers, in my case they did an exception, so waiting on my forth computer.
They will not send me a fifth, cause they said they don't think I'll be satisfied with the next.
So in other words they know their computers are defected.
Had dog whistle on all 3 and a few other problems.
I did not pay money to receive a broken iMac.
I spend allot of time = money sending computers back and spending time on the phone and all.
And one will not receive a compensation unless one keep a comp, but not gonna keep a broken comp.
They know of the problem since most iMacs have it, and they don't care as long as the money comes in.
See if they bother fixing it for the next updated iMac.
If only everyone with the problem would send their computers back, they might actually fix the problem.
They care about money, so unless more ppl complain, they won't do jack.
 
we live in 2010 and the term flawless describes if about 50% are working without fault , thats enough in our society to call something flawless and as long as companies can sell products they have made for $ xxx in asia and can sell them with a profit margin of 75%+in the rest of the world and the customer still thinks he got a bargain there , there will be no changes ,and Apple is not alone there when it comes to making profits , Apple still is a profit based company like all the others too and not a charity, they dont sell the imac to make you happy , they still sell the iMac to make profit from the sale
and a lot of people say the iMac is better then expected ...
the expectations on new products seem to drop and big companies are not stupid if they can get away with it they will
and some might want to convince you that you got a bargain there , by telling you the lcd panel alone cost $1000 , yes that is true, but that is retail price , and nobody in any industry who is manufacturing something buys parts at retail price
 
You know, there is a proverb that say's "If you will not look for problem you will not find one" But I say "If I'm buy a Mercedes I want it to be perfect".

I can live with the blue top and yellow bottom but it's very annoying to know that I bought high cost computer with cheap components.

Until yesterday my "only problems" (and I really hate to say "only problems" was yellow tint for 3-4 seconds after wake up and hard drive noise BUT I read post and see this link: screen_test.tiff I download it and make the test and yes I have blue top and yellow bottom.

I take the same test to my PC and no problem' the screen is perfect so I ask, how it can be that 5 years old 19' Samsung display more accurate from new Apple iMac display.

Some of yo says that you don't have any problems and I'm HAPPY for you BUT if this is the case and some have problems and some not it seems like Apple has very poor quality check or you are very lucky... and my point is WHAY WE SHULD COUNT ON OUR LUCK WHEN WE BUY HIGH COST PRODUCTS? if it was 80$ Chinese Dealxtreme all in one product I would say OK but it's 2000$ all in one from Apple.

but there is a catch the cheaper chinese "all in one" will not look as good from the back ,with all these "unnecessary" cooling and ventilation holes and at the front likely it will have a matte display which does not reflect at all
what do you want with a computer that is proper cooled and the display doesn't show you your reflection on the screen and doesn't even feature a small Apple on the front :rolleyes:

here a strong contender , but not sure if it will be cheaper , but certainly better cooled ok it has only a matte 24" display too

The good looking back not really interests me, I nought Apple because of the MAC OS, after using vista I realize the me and Microsoft will no longer walk hand by hand...

The bottom of the line is that if I knew I will suffer so much from this computer I would never buy it.

P.S, my current problem is Blue top, there is a way to fix this or I need to live with it?

Does not compute! Never will a Mercedes be perfect to you. If you look for problems you will find them. Your mind will make you see imperfection. Same with Apple. Its Standard is higher but there is no perfection in it. If they would try to reach perfection there wont be any progress because reviewing new products would take decades.

that would not be the big issue , i am happy with the intel iMac first generation ,
the big issue with Apple products i have is just the tiny thing that they make every product more complicated , so customers cant upgrade or downgrade by just opening the back and remove the faulty part and replace it with what they can afford
because in case of a repair the proprietary parts used make any iMac out of warranty simply beyond economical repair so apple care is your best bet if you plan to use the iMac longer then one year nowadays ,
i was lucky to catch a iMac that had the screen and logicboard and powersupply and harddrive replaced ,so is literally brandnew inside , so it should work for another 3 years if i am lucky
before the parts fail again :eek:
 
@machamster, the asetek system is a prototype... do i need to say more? And you idea about Upgrading nowadays is pointless because electronics improve faster every year. I built my PC towers that way for years. I upgraded them up to three times. This cost me more money than to build a new one in the end. So what is the real point in upgrading consumer Computer?

OK but Mercedes will do everything they can for sell a good quality cars (S type class) they will not sell a car with a problematic engine for 2 years and buyers will not "live with" this problems.
My point is that Apple can use a bit better screen quality...:(

no need for upgrading if you plan to buy a new iMac every revision, but what if you just want to keep it for sentimental reasons, or money reasons , and after 5 years or so you might have to but cant because of proprietary parts
if Apple would use standard parts you could just upgrade if you needed or wanted to , its not if it makes much sense , its about having the possibility
 
Dude, I don't know if you are being super anal about iMac's or are just looking for something to complain about but I just received my new iMac i7 a few days ago.

There's isn't anything wrong with it. My internal hard drive is a Hitachi and very quiet. No loud noise or anything coming out of it.

And another thing, I looked at PC's for the price of an iMac i7 and very shocked that no one with a brain has mentioned that for the same price you could get a similar PC with NO DISPLAY or Monitor to use it on.

Yes you will get high speed parts that are identical to what I'm using right now but you will have to shell out another $600-1000 for a really nice display that is comparable to what I'm seeing on a 27 inch iMac.

Threads like these are why I stopped visiting certain sections of Macrumors Forums.

I am on my 2nd iMac and my first one was a 24 inch screen that was refurbished but otherwise brand new. Still no problems with anything till this day and it's 2 years old.

You look for problems you will get them. By the way, I used PC's my whole life and I hate them. You spend more time watching out for viruses then you do enjoying what it is you enjoy on a computer.

As far as I'm concerned it took Microsoft about 9 years total to get a new OS to replace Windows XP.

That's a major screw up on Microsoft's part. Oh well going to enjoy my new iMac i7 now.

Probably won't come back to this forums anymore. I've had it.

Just cause you got a perfect machine, doesn't mean everyone ells did.
And if they didn't, they are just being anal?
A new computer isn't suppose to have a bunch of flaws.
I'm waiting on my forth due to mainly dog whistle that gives me a headache, but I should just take an aspirin and deal with it?
 
there are people in the world who buy a mercedes and they can live with a flaw ;)
like there are people who just look over every flaw in Apple products like they didn't exist , apple just cant make a bad product , so it means who sees a screen problem must have some eyesight problem and others who hear rattling harddrives or spinning fans must have problems with their ears , maybe to sensitive calibrated and should listen more trash metal to solve the issue

dont get me wrong i love all my Mac's ,but i know about their downsides too and i dont ignore them
my imac g5 has a blown capacitor and that is no imagination its real and needs to be repaired despite apple offered a repair scheme , but it was not made public and not all g5 iMacs blew their caps straight away so now all who didn't had the time to run around forums before end 2008 when apple stopped the scheme because it became to expensive for them ,to find out about the repair scheme might get blown caps sooner or later on their G5 iMac's and need to repair them if they want to keep them that is :confused:
and as i own a intel iMac too , ok a 2006 model and not new , but
why was it necessary to replace the screen , the logicboard and the harddrive of my intel iMac when it still was under apple care last year? if apple doesn't build in faulty parts ?
they surely did replace the parts just for the fun of replacing them or ?

in todays environment of mass production of millions of iMacs there just have to be some batches with problems , its unavoidable , and mass production is a necessary thing if you want to sell a imac to more then a 100 people a year
and if you want to keep the price down to a acceptable level but the profits high

I understand you so much… I'm waiting also for the 4th one! A real nightmare: first with yellow and flickering screen issues, second with yellow screen issue and HD failure, third with dead pixels, what will be the 4th ? I will give up soon, and if the next one is not perfect I will ask for a refund. I don't know what to do more. Also, it is REAL, a lot of people around the world do have some serious issues with iMac quality.
You are in Sweden, I am in Canada… we share the same issue: faulty iMacs. Hope for you the next one will be the good one.

Oh I'll come back to the forums but I've been busy enjoying my new 27 inch iMac to care about arguing with people on Macrumors forums.

Also I'm in CA but that shouldn't matter. I hope you guys can get a good machine. I'm lucky my 27 inch i7 doesn't have any of these issues but I can tell you that my 24 inch iMac DOES indeed have that ugly Yellow Tint in the screen.

But I purchased my 24 inch iMac 2 years ago as a refurbished model. Oh well I upgraded and will sell my old iMac off very soon.

I feel bad for you guys here.
