The main appeal of it to me was always quick reply. I downloaded it, tried it for a little bit...at first I liked the convenience of quick reply but soon realized that it was useless because I would almost always end up going back and forth for more than just one text.

Quickreply is only useful for one-time texts, ie. "sounds good", "I'll be there" or "call you in 10". It is useless for back and forth conversations as you have to keep deviating from what you're doing and it's far easier just to hit the banner and switch to the full screen conversation.

Aside from that the other benefits seemed negligible, I quickly uninstalled it. I'd rather have to original stock look and feel of the Messages app than those small benefits I had no use for.

What do people love so much about it?

I always used the Quickreply option from the lockscreen. You only go back to your Messages App if you select "open". You may always tap the status bar at the top where the message counter is and it will drop down your current unread messages. You can quick reply from there as well instead of unlocking your phone.

You can also scroll through your messages through quick reply by pulling down near the top of the Quick Reply box.

I think it's the options it offers. I do agree sometimes if you're having a conversation back and forth the benefit can seem negligible. What's messages+ like then?

QR can be done with Couria , and I have no other need for Bite. I also only send about 3-5 texts a day, so it's not like I need major texting power.

i agree, had it until the license expired & then deleted it. nothing really special other than quick reply but i don't really care for that

i also don't need to schedule texts to send at a later time, don't really understand that at all

I love it for the quick reply. I use it even when having a a longer conversation. I feel it saves a little battery life, totally in my opinion, doing quick replies then having your phone open in the message app the entire time. I rarely unlock my phone for texts.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don't find some tweaks/hacks as useful as the community but the #1 reason I jailbreak is for bitesms. So I do disagree with you and I think the hype for bitesms is justified if that many people really are on the train

I don't quite get the need to post the fact that you don't get the hype about something. I don't get the hype about Air Jordans, but I'd never go into a shoe forum and post that I don't get it why people are so excited about them.

I was genuinely curious what people used it for

QR is cool and I use it a lot. Generally, I don't need to refer to previous parts of a conversation I may be having with someone by going into the main app itself so this works for me.

However, that's what that little mini slider bar in QR is for. If you NEED to refer back, pull the slider down and scroll up. It will show up the entire conversation inside the QR. No need to go to the main app.

But what I really use Bite for is QC. Seriously, a quick text should not require a four pin lock code to unlock, opening the Messages app and pressing on the compose button. QC from the lockscreen via Bite and we're good. Couria was mentioned earlier and that's all fine and good, I like it. But Couria wasn't around in February 2013 when I bought BiteSMS and since I use BiteSMS for more than just QC and QR it's still the app I choose.

Scheduled text messages, ability to edit contacts, THEMING (I have DarkSMS Pro)! Oh and with 7.6.8 I get text heads in my Notification Center. A feature removed in 8.x.

I guess different strokes for different folks. its probably the number 1 reason why I jailbreak....

As for carrying on a conversation did you turn on the pull down feature? when you pull down from the quick reply window you see the entire conversation, its almost the same as being in the app.

Anyway the hype I guess is convinience. for example if I am watching a video and someone texts me its cumbersome to exit the video go in to the messages app reply then go back to your video.... when I could quickly reply hit send and get back to my video... same applies to any other app you may be working with or the lockscreen.

And I do use the timer feature. for example I set future messages for people birthdays so on a person's bday a message goes out automatically wishing them a happy birthday in case I forget on that day. and I've used it in several other occasions as well.

May want to get better about asking a question....

Example:

"I don't know why people get so excited about Star Wars!"

vs.

"What is it about Star Wars that people find so appealing?"

It's all in the way you ask. You're putting people on the defensive by saying you don't get it why someone is excited about something, making it seems like they're abnormal for their enthusiasm.

If his way of asking the question deserves that much criticism so does the defensiveness of some of the replies.

I love Bite. I used to have the same frustration with quick reply that you did. What I've done now is turn off the auto pop ups while my phone is actively in use. I get banner notifications and just tap them to bring up the QR window. If I'm not ready to reply, I don't even have to swipe it away.

I'm a little different. Unless version 8.x has changed things, there is a "Later" button in the QR. If I don't want to bother with a message right then I just press that. I still see the message because the QR box popped up. I have it set so that the message indicator is still on screen if I close without replying. I can respond later by pressing that indicator.

quick reply still has the "later" button. close marks the message read if i'm not mistaken

the "close" button is missing from quick compose though. it's been replaced with a swipe to the right

Right, sorry! Should have said "Later". I went and fixed it!

Correct.
I have mine setup the same way but by hitting the home button instead of "Later"
It still leaves it unread and the indicator on so I can open it and respond later.

LOL! I have my home button set that eay too but I am always forgetting that I can use it, so I end up pressing the Later button anyway! :D
