When I loaded iOS5 on my 3GS all the contacts on my iPhone appeared as iCloud contacts. My wife got her new 4S on launch day but she still doesn't have any contacts in iCloud. She has about 400 in her iPhone that were put there from syncing to her laptop. iCloud is turned on and the iPhone is setup to backup to iCloud. The contacts switch is set to ON as well.

Any ideas how to get her contacts to iCloud?

What are the contacts stored in on the laptop? Can you sync them up to iCloud from there, they should propagate down to the phone.

Well, the contacts are in Address Book but the MBA doesn't have Lion on it. I really wish Apple would release something to allow a 10.6.8 machine to use iCloud.

In case anyone else has this issue and stumbles across this post I'm going to post what I did to fix this issue.

I toggled off contacts in the iCloud settings. It asked if I wanted to remove all the iCloud contacts on the phone (there were none) and I said yes. Then I toggled on contacts in the iCloud settings and it asked if I wanted to merge the contacts on the phone with the iCloud contacts and I said yes. After a minute or so all the contacts on the phone appeared on icloud.com and then on the phone. Then I disabled contact syncing via AddressBook and everything is allright.
