Yes, unfortunately you read correctly...
Everything went except the hard drive. Luckily everything was replaced under warranty. The Mac Geniuses (Who were fairly helpful and supportive despite the fact that it took 3 1/2 weeks to get fixed) said it would have cost as much as a new computer to get fixed were it not under warranty, which would have cause a violent in-store reaction from me were it the case.
A little background of the events leading up to it:
I was running Windows XP under bootcamp, playing BF 2142 for about 1 hour when the screen just went black. I have the 2.16 Ghz Core 2 duo and an upgraded video card - 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT. I had played this game and other system-taxing 3D games many times before under windows for HOURS without issues. I read about the 20" PS issues and recalls that were most likely caused by overheating and that is when it occurred to me that Windows may not be controlling the fan speeds within the tightly packed oven that is my iMac in order to keep the necessary hardware cool and this may be the cause of the power supply going and taking everything with it.
My question:
Are the fans of my iMac 24" properly controlled in windows to increase fan speed to meet increasing temps and cool hardware properly?
Is there any program to monitor them or control them that is specific to my model or will work with most models? I have only seen programs for MBP's in my searches, so please don't flame me for not searching I looked a little but figured I would start a searchable thread based on this model to help out other who have had this issue.
Thanks!
Kevin
