I dropped my iphone 13 pro in the toilet and stayed there for hours!!

I have a brand new Iphone Pro Max and I woke up to find it inside the toilet!! I must have dropped it without realising and went to bed.

The speakers are functioning poorly. I used apps to eject water and I have it in a container with rice but I am not sure that's going to help???

Do you have any tips? Anyone knows how much it will cost to repair? I am aware that it's not covered in guarantee but it should since they claim it can be under water for 30 minutes....

I have had 3 iphones and never lost them or damaged them, this is driving me crazy!!

Sorry to hear this.
Unfortunately, Apple won’t cover for water damage of any kind, despite them marketing the phone to be water resistant. Rice is a rather poor way to dry the phone, make a quick online search for alternatives and see what you can get your hands on easily.

Considering your warranty is now voided anyway, you can go to any phone shop offering speaker replacements, if you trust them to do a good job. But really, you’d be better of buying after replacement speakers and replace them yourself or have it done by a friend that feels confident enough doing so. You can buy the parts and tools from the web, I, like others here probably would, too, recommend ifixit.com. You should be able to find the parts and guides you need there.

the store it in rice-part is sadly an urban legend, it doesn’t really help.. turn it off and store it in a warm and dry place for e.g. at least 36 hours and then check again.

You left it in the water for way longer than the 30 minute submerged criteria stated in the water resistance rating.. Let the phone dry out on its own or in the sun.. It may end up working fine when all the water is gone.. Also desiccant bags work much better than rice as they are designed to remove moisture.. Try those if you can find them

My wife accidentally left her completely-non-water-resistant flip phone in a pants pocket and put them in the wash. She caught it before the cycle started, but it got good and drenched. (You could see water in the display.) It would not power-up.

I shook it out as well as possible, put the oven on as low a temperature as it would go, put the phone on the middle rack--opened, and left the oven door propped open a good ways.

After checking the phone a couple times to ensure it wasn't getting too hot (i.e.: It could still be comfortably handled--getting no hotter than it would sitting out in the summer sun), I left it that way for several hours. (I don't recall how long "several" was, anymore.)

It worked fine after that.

Btw: I've worked in electronics for a good many years. If you don't have a good feel for "how hot is too hot" for electronics, doing what I did may not be a good idea

Circumventing the morality discussion in here (with a brief recommendation of not being an ******* to people trying to buy well-functioning used products online) - how long has the phone been out of the water? Honestly, these new iPhones are so waterproof that I would highly doubt being in a toilet for a few hours is going to do any significant long-term damage.

Yes, the IP68 rating only states 30 minutes at 6 meters but presumably your toilet bowl is significantly more shallow than that and thus the pressure is less and I would assume it would last a long time with no damage. Also, the iPhones often out-perform their stated IPXX ratings. Wait a day or so and see if the water cleared out of the speakers has them functioning normally again - take a few deep breaths and exercise some patience. My bet is that it will be okay.

Was it clean fresh water in the bowl?? If so, letting it properly dry out should help, and hopefully it was just the speakers that are damaged.

If you have pee'd in the water, then thats another matter...... lol

Probably the best solution is to let it dry completely before using it at all. Have a fan blowing on it overnight.

Sorry that this happened. Just be up front about what happened and accept the consequences.

The best solution is to use a vacuum cleaner to suck out the excess liquid from the speaker ports and lightening port along with the SIM slot, wipe the excess water dry and let the device dry overnight with a fan on it while powered off. The phone is fine the speakers just sound like that as it has excess water.

Some people on her make a big deal out of nothing, get it repaired then sell it. The amount of nonsense suggestions boggles the mind. Yes, I know many people who have taken the above steps on their phones and guess what it works fine. Give it a try and best of luck.

Over time, it will smell bad. In fact, there is no repair here, this is the cleaning of microcircuits. The cost will depend on the appetizers of the service center.

If you have Apple Care+ on the phone, it would be covered by accidental damage and cost $99 to replace.
