i ****ed up my mini

Okay, here's the deal. I opened up my mini to clean out all the dust from the fan, and other places when i accidentaly managed to rip out the red cable that goes from the dvd-player to some controller card on the mini from it's connector on the mini.

It's the red cable on this picture..

Since i now effectively freed my machine of any warranty.. Any way of fixing this myself? Or any ideas of how much it will cost to fix professionaly or if it's cheaper to just buy a new one..

locate where you ripped it out and solder it back on

but then i worked out what red cable you ripped out , the ribbon -

Did you rip the ribbon cable from the drive end or the end that is attached to the board? It is most likely the cable got detached from the drive end and it's just a matter of reinserting the cable and locking it in place.

You mean like with something sticky? there should be a connector on that end of the cable, but that still is on the back of the drive. I'm no good at soldering and stuff..

Anyone know if the cable is soldered on the board end of the cable (i haven't dared to check)? if it's not, i think it's just a matter of getting a new cable.

Can you not just slide it right back in?

It just slides in. No need to solder it back together. I did the same thing to mine but I removed it on purpose when I was upgrading the memory.

It took a little work, but hey, it's back together and it works

okay, now i can't get the top cover on. I've tried many times, but i still get a crack on the backside. almost like something doesn't fit

Check those darn little s-shaped tabs on the back. They are supposed to fit into a little crack but if they aren't then it can hold the back end of the top away from the rear panel.
