To this point Ive had no interest in unlocking or jailbraking or anything. However, it seems ziphone is some kind of miracle app that can unlock with a few clicks.

Trust me, Ive read and read and read about this but I dont know if I should even try. The more I read the more confused I get.

I have a 4gb iphone, no clue about bootloaders or whatever. Seems you need to know which one you have before you do anything. And everyone talks about what v.firmware you have OTB. I dont know, I dont remember. I *think* it was 1.0.2?? Im currently running 1.1.3.

Here is what I want to do: I want to be able to use my phone with Tmobile. I already have a Tmo account, so I have the sim card right here.

What all do I need to do in ziphone? Just tick "unlock" and thats it?? And does unlocking within ziphone void the warranty at all? Is it possible to re-lock? If my phone suddenly dies and I take it to get replaced they arent going to wag a finger in my face and say "naughty boy, its unlocked, you are stuck." Thats probably my biggest concern. Can you totally put everything back the way it was within ziphone?

Some hold my hand and walk me through how to use ziphone to be able to get on with Tmobile. Thanks.

edit - I should mention that my iphone is currently being used on an ATT gophone plan, so its already activated.

Try iNdependence

Hi!

I'm not really an expert, but I've managed tu survive to the multiple firmware updates since I bought my phone in november (I guess) with firmware 1.1.1 OTB. I've always used iNdependence, which I strongly recommend. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that iNdependence relies on ZiPhone's unlock. I don't want to give credits to the wrong guys or to forget anybody. And then again, ZiPhone's method was conceived by others. I guess I just go used to iNdependence...

Anyway I'll stick to the question. I won't put the link to iNdependence, to avoid his site being saturated, but it's the first Google hit for the word "independence". There you can upgrade your phone as usual via iTunes and then follow his tutorial, which you'll find at the help menu.

You basically click Jailbreak to jailbreak, Activate to activate your phone and so on. The help section is really well written.

If you are already running 1.1.3 you just have to jailbreak it, activate (doesn't matter that your phone is currently activated) and unlock it. Voilá!

As for the guarantee, I have no idea. I live in Mexico and we don't even have support for non-jailbroken iPhones...

I suggest you to give it a try and if you still fell the need for help, let me know.

Best regards,

Francisco

I tried ziphone on my 1.1.3 phone before I upgraded to 1.1.4 (The apps weren't that exciting to me) and I have to say that ziphone is probably the easiest hacking software that I've used to date. All you do is dock your phone and let the program run. Everything is done in under a minute.

I like it, and I think that you can unlock it using an application in the installer app.

Cheers

You WILL have bootloader 3.9 as all the first phones had that and I am assuming you got it when it first came out as its a 4GB iphone.

You can relock the phone using ZiPhone but should it go wrong and you are unable to restore it to its original state Apple will not honour the warranty.

That should be clear by now as they have been saying that since 1.1.1.

If you unlock it and you break it then your'll have to buy a new one!

Having said that ZiPhone and Independence both claim to not be able to brick iPhone and be restorable so in theory it should work without any problems.

Just remmeber DO NOT upgrade the firmware when a new update is out or it may relock the phone if you do not wait for a new JB/Unlock.

Currently Independence is the only "official" way to unlock and JB firmware 1.1.4.

If you have a 4BG Iphone (early models) your bootloader should be 3.9. I just sold my 4GB couple of days ago and I use Zibri's Ziphone 2.4 to Jailbreak and unlock the phone and it only took me 4 minutes to get it done. I did not had any problems with Zibri's method so you should be alright.

My suggestion is not to upgrade (1.1.4) stay with 1.1.3 then use Ziphone. It is so simple. Go to www.iphone.unlock.no click on Ziphone download, zip the program and pick the "Do it all" and off you go...

Goodluck!

That link seems to be for a windows version? Im a mac user, but have gotten the 2.4 app. However it looks a bit different. There is no "do all" nor is there a relock button.

Unlocking and getting on with Tmo to make calls seems pretty straight forward, but how hard is it to get data plan working with Tmo?

Again, yes, Ive read, but it seems you need to install ibrikr or installer.app or something, and then do something through ssh which Im totally unfamiliar with. When you havent kept up with the latest methods its hard to figure out what is the most current way of doing things. Alot of things Ive read still are working against the 1.1.1 firmware.

Lastly, is it confirmed yet that the 5.99 tzones plan still works or do you need a $20 data plan?

Just do a search and use independence, its the same as Zibri's method.

I used an old version of independance way back to activate an iphone that wasnt on voice plan. Was a very good piece of software and I trust that it would work. Have downloaded the newest version and see it says "activate, deactivate, unlock." Would I just plug in and hit "sim unlock" and thats it? Or does it have to be jailbroken first through the jailbreak tab?

Tzones will not work anymore that's coz I called Tmobile and have added the Tzone plan. Chnage my EDGE settings but I could not get it to work. I even spoke to a Tier 2 guy from Tmobile and had walk me through the process still we couldn't get it to work. So he gave me the Unlimited Internet for free until the next billing cycle. You have to get the Unlimited internet
