I know, there are apps out there that allow you to schedule Time Machine backups - and I had one that worked great. Every morning I'd have my Mac startup at 8am and do the day's backup. Good enough. I don't need hourly backups. Unfortunately, I also need Dreamweaver CS5 to work - so I can't upgrade to Sierra. That being said, the apps no longer work with El Capitan so I'm SOL. :p

I have a Time Capsule and run two separate wifi networks. I don't want guests coming in and connecting to my wifi with their computer and have the ability to connect to my Time Machine - so I have everybody connect to one network - and I use the other. Yesterday I happened to connect to the "other" network and noticed Time Machine hadn't backed up since the previous day. Boom! Heh. I just figured out how to avoid those hourly backups. Now I just connect first thing in the morning and then switch.

I know, I'm probably the last person on Earth to have figured this out. However, I'm posting this here so that the next sorry soul who hasn't figured this out yet and does a Google search - may find this information (and Mac Rumors)...
